Nelson aka Lil Nut was a product of his environment, meaning he grew up surrounded by guns, drugs and fast money. Idolizing his father and several of the local dealers, he set out to do it better than any one of them. At the early age of 13, Lil Nut hit the streets running and never turned back. Setting up his own team he enforced leadership and street knowledge amongst his followers. Defeating the odds and gaining a reputation as a crazy trigger man, no one stood up to him. Forced to be the man of the house after his fathers’ fall from grace, Nelson became a menace in the streets. Can Lil Nut outsmart his rivals? Or will he become a statistics?

10 Crack Commandments by Erica Hilton will have you holding your breath as you watch this young man live through gunshots, death threats and more. With an array of colorful characters, the common crack heads that we have all grown up around and the around-the-way girls, you will find yourself bobbing to classic Biggie Smalls and remembering your teen years. 10 Crack Commandments is full of drama, truth and is well written. I recommend this book to readers of street literature.

  1. Dear Cheryl,

Hello! I teach high school English in Danbury, CT to teenage girls who have dropped out of school, have children or are pregnant. We just held a “Book Talk” on outside readings today, and one of my students presented Ten Crack Commandments. After group discussion about the book’s plot and ending, she didn’t think the book had a theme, or that the author had a message, except that possibly Lil Nut should have followed the 10 Commandments and everything would have worked out for him.

Would you mind sharing your thoughts on the book’s theme and the ‘author’s message’ from your perspective? I think my student would really benefit from your insight!

    Thank you,
