Mikal El-Amin was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina, and has experienced life from various aspects. He grew up in the inner city streets of Durham where hopelessness and despair was extremely prevalent. Because of dire circumstances he got immersed into a life of hustling in the streets.
After several turbulent years of hustling he decided to completely change his lifestyle. He wound up moving to Brooklyn, New York where he remade his self into an entrepreneur. He enrolled in college as a business major, and a few years later began writing. In 2009 he started his own publishing company, and now resides in California where he is fully dedicated to becoming a prolific writer. El-Amin has been writing professionally for over five years, and is an author in both urban fiction and romance genres.

“187 Iz An Art” is an urban fiction novel that depicts the life of a hustler’s trials and tribulations. It tells the story of two cousins growing up in the projects, and being influenced into the drug life by the allures of power and respect and not necessarily the money. The story is unique from other books of similar themes for various reasons. Each scene builds on the theme giving the reader clarity on why the characters lead their types of lifestyles. All of the book’s scenes transition properly showing the reader how the crew gains power and wealth.
Readers will enjoy the book because there are lots of characters they will be able to relate to. Also the story is told with cinematic overtones with extremely vivid scenes, and it is very entertaining and humorous as well.
Does 187 Is An Art have a message and if so what is it that you want readers to take away?
Yes it has a message. The story shows that there is no winning in the drug life and that no matter how big the potential money may seem, all atempts end with the same disasterous conclusions. The authors put a spin on the ending of “187 Iz An Art”, so pay attention to everything in between.
Why did the authors decide to write 187 Is An Art?
El-Amin and Brown chose this type of novel because it is what they grew up around. There are tons of spectacular books with similar themes, although the authors felt sometimes people hold back a bit on the complete reality. So they wanted to put out a hustle-hard novel that held no punches. Future releases will show the range of the authors’ versitility.
If a future book is in the pipeline, what is the title and what is it about?
El-Amin is working on a novel about a crime scene investigator who is called to a crime scene that dramatically changes her life. Brown is working on a novel that is about an all female bike club, which consist of ladies from various etnicities. The girls are thorough street chicks and get money in a unique way.
