Ace of Hearts by Jean Holloway is the story of Detective Shevaughn Robinson who was the first black female detective in the City of Portsborough, New York. This was a history making event that caused a lot of backlash in the beginning. When reporter, Tony O’Brien, tries to interview Shevaughn, they both get more than they bargained for. During the interview process, there is an obvious attraction between the two of them. When a report comes in about the murder of a female victim, who just so happens to be someone Tony is seeing, he becomes suspect in the gruesome murders of these women who are left the calling card, the ace of hearts. Will Tony be cleared? Will Tony & Shevaughn make it together as a couple after everything is all said and done? Will the real killer be caught?

I thought this was an enjoyable read of suspense and romance intertwined. Although I did feel that the romance took away from the actual story, I am looking forward to reading the sequel. If you are looking for a different read than your average read, you should check this book out!
