This week’s author’s interview is with Victoria Wells…this month’s theme is resolutions, motivation, inspiration and positivity.
In 140 words or less, tell us a little about you.–I’ve had a love affair with books since reading Charlotte’s Web as a young child. AA romance and biographies are my favorite genres. Writing is something I do because I enjoy creating a fantasy world where real life issues are explored. I love being a wife, mother and nurse practitioner. My favorite pastime is? You guessed it…READING!
In 140 words or less, tell us why your book would make a great addition to our personal library.–When Love Comes Around would make a great addition to any personal library because it tells an entertaining story of real life issues women are faced with every day. If we haven’t ourselves, then someone we’ve known has dealt with fertility concerns, trust issues due to past relationship baggage, bitterness towards a neglectful parent, secrets you’re too afraid to share because you fear you might be judged, or trying to hold onto a man who has clearly moved on.
What are your writing goals?–I would love to develop a concrete writing schedule. I really want to set aside at least an hour or two a day to write. I usually write when I have the time, which is on the weekends.
What are your reading goals?–About a year ago I found this really cool used bookstore in Olde City, Philly. I was lucky enough to get my hands on Dust Tracks on the Road by Zora Neale Hurston, Quicksand and Passing by Nella Larsen, and Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl by Harriet Jacobs (published 1861). I read Jacobs’ book years ago as a teenager and Their Eyes Were Watching God last year. Although, I love romance, I want to read works of female writers from the Harlem Renaissance era.
How did you bring in the New Year?–I was in church on my knees praying.
What did you serve/have for New Year’s Dinner?–My family and I have our dinner New Year’s Eve at my parents’ home. My mom cooked kale, black-eye peas, fried chicken, pig feet (Yuk!), ham, and potato salad.
Did you make any resolutions?–I sure did. I promised myself I’m not going to get stressed out over other people’s mess. I realize the only person I can change is myself; therefore, I can’t allow other’s issues to control who I am and what I do.
Name one thing you would like to do differently this year.–Manage my time and money better.
Name one person (who you don’t normally see) that you would like to see or be in contact with more often this year.–I want to have more contact with my oldest sister Sandra who lives in another state.
How will you celebrate President-Elect Barack Obama’s inauguration?–Since I’ll be working ::sigh:: the medical assistant I work with, we’re going to throw a Barack party for our patients and watch the inauguration on television.
What was the last nice thing you said to someone?–I hugged and told my aunt whom I hadn’t seen in over twenty years, “It’s so good to see you.”
What was the last nice thing someone said to you?–”I’m proud of you.”
What’s the nicest thing a reader has ever said about your book?–”I’ve really enjoyed your book. I didn’t want it to end.”
What’s your favorite saying/quote?–”Jesus, keep me near the cross.”
