2010 African American Book Releases
New releases that I’ve read this year from my prior list that I posted here. Books highlighted in bold are those that I would recommend to others. My all-time favorite book so far this year is The Island Beneath the Sea by Isabelle Allende. I highly recommend this book to historical fiction fans.

Big Girls Do Cry by Carl Weber (if you like entertainment purpose only reads)
Victorie: My Mother’s House by Maryse Condi (reading next…based upon word of mouth I think I will enjoy this one)
Searching for Tina Turner by Jacqueline Luckett (started reading it but never finished it…it wasn’t holding my interest at the time and there were too many other books in the pile calling my name…lol)
Wench by Dolen Perkins-Valdez (recommend to historical fiction fans)
The Girl Who Fell from the Sky by Heidi W. Durrow (story about a troubled, disturbed biracial young girl…good coming of age story)
Perfect Peace by Daniel O. Black (Highly recommend…this book is my second favorite read for 2010…can’t say enough about this author as I’ve never met a book by him that I didn’t enjoy immensely)
Take Your Pleasure Where You Find It by JD Mason (APOOO June BOM I will read this month)
What Mother Never Told Me by Donna Hill (If you liked Rhythms you will enjoy this sequel)
Trouble Down the Road by Bettye Griffin (Another sequel which was a good entertainment purposes only read…now be warned most of these characters will work your last nerve!!!!)
Island Beneath the Sea by Isabel Allende–My #1 FAVORITE READ FOR 2010!!!!!!!!!
Holy Rollers by Reshonda Tate Billingsley (Fans of Billingsley will enjoy this read)
JennieMae and James a Memoir in Black and White by Brooke Newman (If you enjoy memoirs then I definitely recommend this one)
Red Hats by Damon Wayans (Better than expected…cute, delightful, quick read)
Un-Nappily in Love by Trisha Thomas (okay I’m cheating…haven’t read this one yet but it’s on the list because I plan to read it before the end of June)
So what 2010 African-American book titles (or books about people from the African Diaspora) have you read and are recommending to others?
Share your list in the comments section.
PS–Before the end of the year I plan to read all of the books that I previously on my 2010 read list and if I enjoy it I will definitely be recommending it to you!

Donnica´s last [type] ..Father’s Day Freebies
My book group read BEFORE I FORGET by Leonard Pitts in 2009. We loved it. Many said that this was a book to give to the men (husbands, fathers, brothers, sons) in our lives. He was the featured speaker at the 4th Annual (2010) Austin African American Book Festival (Austin, Texas).
So far this year we have enjoyed THE IMMORTAL LIFE OF HENRIETTA LACKS the most. THE OTHER WES MOORE was well received.
I have just started LOSING MY COOL: HOW A FATHER’S LOVE AND 15,000 BOOKS BEAT HIP-HOP CULTURE. Waiting in the wings is THE CROSS OF REDEMPTION: UNCOLLECTED WRITINGS BY JAMES BALDWIN. I am also looking forward to Eugene Robinson’s book DISINTEGRATION: THE SPLINTERING OF BLACK AMERICA. I think it will start a lot of discussion.
Perfect Peace – I totally agree with the reviewer. It was one of the best books I have read in a long time. After reading it I went back and read Mr. Black’s “They Tell Me Of A Home” and it was also great.
Searching for Tina Turner
I really enjoyed Searching for Tina Turner and I loved that Lena found her inner strength and stayed true to herself. She learned to let go and not try to do everything for everyone and actually let someone do something for her from time to time. I do think this book will probably appeal more to middle aged women.

@ Rhonda thanks for stopping by and I see we share a few favorites–Perfect Peace, Wench, 32 Candles…
my kindle wishlist has trippled after reviewing a few of the lists here on APOO. These are really good suggestions.
I had the opportunity to attend a book club luncheon where Daniel Black read from his latest Perfect Peace, and I highly recommend the book just from hearinf him read excerpts.
