Ooh, this is going to be fun. Can’t wait to listen in.
I am up for the fun… I used to belong to a book club but they only wanted to read one type of book all the time and the conversation became more about family and ex-husbands instead of books. Another club requested members to pay more fees than books that were read.. For instance, there were fees for if you were late to a meeting, did not read the book, did not finish the book, did not have suggestions for the next month and on and on and on…
I am still looking and hoping to find a book club to be a part of
I belong to a bookclub called Sistahs and I am apart of urban reviews and passion4reading online groups.
I’m so excited Yas – thanks to you and Grand Central Publishing my book club cannot wait!!!
Its on yall!!!!
Dee–it’s on…stop by often…:)
Cilla–don’t even go there with fees…lol.
TZIONA-thanks for stopping by! Hope to see you again.
Missy–you are always such a trooper and I love it!
Yes…I belong to a offline bookclub and an online bookclub. My offline bookclub is called Black Women Who Read in the New Haven, CT area. We have been meeting since 1994 and currently have 12 members. The online bookclubs is called Mahogany Bookclub and Urbanreviews.
Hello,
I belong to Reader’s Paradise Book Club out of Chicago, IL and I also belong to an online book club called Peoplewholovegoodbooks.
I belong to Motown Review bookclub. We have been together 10 years. I also belong to APOOO booklcub online.
Adrienne–thanks for stopping by and would love to feature your local book club this month.
Tangerine–Readers Paradise will be featured on 9/4 and I’m looking forward to featuring your group and a former APOOO online member.
Jnette–Motown Review is 10 years old…wow…and look forward to hosting your book club on 9/5 and having all of your members stop by to wish me an EARLY HAPPY B-DAY…hehe.
Hee-hee former “APOOO member” wow I almost forgot we ran the internet together Yas –
This is going to be so much fun!
A friend just decided to start a book club, so I am excited to be a part of a book club. I do belong to several book discussion groups online and we do have books of the month….but no official online book club. I am not sure what would be a good one to join. I do not run across many people in Jacksonville who read as much as I do. Alot of our friends joining our book club are not avid readers. They are trying it out to hopefully become more motivated to read.
Missy–I’m going to take you way back…remember attending the Harlem Book Club Festival when it was really good and we got FREE books! hehe.
Hello Lashonda and thanks for stopping by…good luck with your book club…one thing about a book club you don’t need a lot of members but you do need AVID readers.
Yes I belong to 2 online clubs and love them both
I use to belong to a offline club when lived in Atlanta but since moving to small town in Ca can not find one .
Wow’ what an interesting site I see here. Well, yes, I do belong to an online book club by the name of Urban-Reviews. Offline, I read books with my co-workers, all of the ladies involved are all US postal workers. It’s not exactly a book club but then again IT Is. We read all types of books weekly. Wait until I pass the word about this site… This will be fun. Thanks!!!
I’ve never belonged to a book club but I’m thinking about starting one through my church. I just haven’t found one in my area and doubt I’d find one committed to the mix of AA and Christian fiction that I want to read.

Cool contest Yas! I used to belong to an offline bookclub years ago but had to let it go — too much to do. I’d like to join another (off/online) but my reading time has diminished a lot while I try to get my own book finished. We’ll see how it goes.

I really enjoy visiting your site and I do not belong to a book club at the present time because I do nt know of any in my area and I do not know how to locate the ones that are on line.

Free yes oh me oh my!!! Prior to 2007 it had been a longgggggggggggg time since getting anything free at HBF. Solomon Jones author of The Bridge attended in 2007 and he gave our about 20 copies of C.R.E.A.M, this year LCB gave out t-shirts and your choice of one free book if you registered prior to getting to the event.
But sis you are so right nothing like in the previous years. Now Soul Expressions -Levy Entertainment @ Wal-Mart has some really nice author event. (nothing free except a bag!!!)
Missy–LOL regarding nothing free with Soul Expressions except for the bag…and have you been to any other Harlem BF…I heard they’ve changed a lot. I vended five years ago and it was such a nightmare…I haven’t been back since…keep saying I’m going each year…if for no other reason than to network…but I keep hearing such negative reports I’m not sure it’s worth it…sigh.
I have attended the Harlem Book Festival every year since 2002, but girl I faithfully go because I incorporate the festival into my trip home…lol
In 2007 I said that was myt last year but I go home every year around that time so it makes sense that I jump on the train and make the 30 minute ride once I’m in NY. Hey in 2007 that was going to be my last year attending but guess what I’m so nosey and I keep thinking it wil change. Well now they have more Afrocentric home goods at the fair it should be renamed Harlem Home Goods Festival!!
Thanks to everyone for helping to kick off the September HOTC spotlight!
Day 1 WINNER is Tangela W. and she won a copy of Dwayne Joseph’s new release, Home Wrecker.
Stay tuned…Day 2 WINNER will be announced this afternoon and it could be you.
In the meantime, I encourage you to meet today’s book club, The Literary Divas.
Congratulations.. Tangela
