Awake is the long awaited second installment in Wendy Raven McNair’s Asleep Trilogy. When Asleep, book one of the trilogy, ended Adisa had just learned she was a super-being like her boyfriend, Micah. She is the key to saving Micah’s life according to an ancient prophesy. Usually children who are super-beings, once they manifest into their powers, are trained, but Micah does not want anyone to know that Adisa has powers. How can she save him if she has no clue how to control her newfound powers?

As Adisa embanks on the journey to fully grasp a hold of who she is, she cannot help but feel as though she is still missing something. Even though she loves and appreciates the people who raised her for most of her life, Adisa has a strong desire to meet her real parents. At the same time she is dealing with her longing, Adisa begins to feel pressure from people all around her; from Micah to his father, Mr. Alexander. She struggles to keep secrets and promises she find herself making. Will she be able to please everyone? Or, will she finally go insane?

Awake is filled with characters I was first introduced to in Asleep, but in this book they shocked me. Every person mentioned, secondary characters included, was a major piece to the puzzle no matter how small their part was. Each chapter was more than just filler; they were precisely placed and written with care. I would be a fool not to mention the fight scenes that came off the pages due to the vivid imagery. I cannot wait to read the third book in this awesome trilogy. Ms. McNair has tapped into the super-human phenomenon. I recommend Awake to young adults and adults who like reading books with super heroes.
