Another Book Meme: Friday Finds

Hello good peeps and TGIF!  Yep, I found another book meme.  Ooops…did I forget to tell you that I’m looking for one each day…so stay tuned for Monday and Wednesday’s themes.  In the meantime, check out today’s FRIDAY FINDS created by ShouldBeReading.  I really like this one because it’s basically a good way to spread the word and recommend books that wouldn’t normally be on our radar to others.

Here’s how it works:

What great books did you hear about, or add to your TBR list/piles this week.  NOTE:  It doesn’t have to be a book you read…it’s just a book that you came across and that you want to tell others about.

Here’s my list…and thanks to Book Bloggers Appreciation Week…I found a number of books that I normally wouldn’t hear of…but I also moved up on my reading list books that have been on my bookshelf for awhile…but I haven’t read because well no one, I knew, was really talking about them.

Half of a Yellow Moon by Chimanda Ngozi Adichie; I’ve had this book for a moment but it’s a BAB and given that I have so many other books on my list it wasn’t on the top.  Moved it up because of a review written by Trish over at Reading Nook.

The Heretic’s Daughter by Kathleen Kent, okay I kept seeing posts about this book this week, so I finally decided to take the plunge and read a review.  This morning I stopped by Hey Lady! Whatcha Reading…and lo and behold…she just read and reviewed The Heretic’s Daughter.  Her review made me want to read and review.  Now, I’m off to get a review copy and figure out just how the heck I’m going to get all of these books read and reviews done…hehe.  Hmmm how about by reading one book a week and the reviews…I can always write them while I’m in church or a meeting…shush…hehe.

House and Home by Kathleen McCleary found this over at Age30+A Lifetime of Books.  Very intriguing and looks like something I would enjoy reading so I’ve already requested a review copy from the author.  And she’s already responded!  How kewl (and quick) is that!

Run by Ann Patchett.  This book has been in my TRP for a year.  Why?  ‘Cause I didn’t have anyone to read and discuss it with.  Now I do…PeekingBetweentheSheets and BookClubGirl were both instrumental in helping me move this one up on my list…especially since there will be an online book discussion next week!  I’m looking forward to hanging out with them and chatting about Run.

The Spanish Bow by Andromeda Romano-Lax; okay this is a book that I wouldn’t have given a second chance if I saw it in the bookstore.  But book bloggers rock!  Because of an interview that MyFriendAmy wrote earlier this week featuring Romano-Lax, and the author’s heart for book bloggers, and the excitement and appreciation shared in her blog, I’m going to purchase this book.  I can’t say enough…book bloggers rock…and authors it would behoove you to get to know more of us.  Especially those who read the type of books that you write!

One of the best things about these finds is thatit is an eclectic and diverse array of themes…just the way I like my book reads.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS

Share your finds for this week?

Did you see anything on my list that you might consider reading…if someone gave the book to you. ;)

  1. Home and House is now on my wish list because of the synopsis, the trailer and the author saying how she was over come by emotions while writing it. That is something I can’t wait to read.

I love romance books and have been hearing about quite a few, so I will try to weed through some of the older books and read them as palate cleansers after the heavy stuff.

I’m trying to follw you Yas, but you be moving all over the place and fast. I need some roller blades to keep up.
