African American Book ReviewHeading: Journey to Redemption

Aaron “Ace” Jamieson prided himself on being a ladies’ man, making sure not to stay with a young lady for too long so she would not start thinking about marriage. That is, until he met Talise Rogers in Pat Simmons’ The Guilt Trip.

Being in a relationship with Talise was different from all of the other women Ace had dated, and he finally admitted his true feelings to himself. Just when he was ready to reveal his heart to Talise, she dropped a bomb on Ace he could not handle. Instead of handling the situation head on, Ace convinced himself that it was a trap, not unlike a few he was almost caught in, and ran to St. Louis with his brother, Kidd.

Once the Jamieson family found out what was going on with Ace, they reacted in a way he felt betrayed him and favored Talise. Female trouble was not new to him; and loving and leaving them was hardly a difficult feat. Talise’s imprint on his heart was one that Ace could not deny, but what will he do to make things right? Is it with Talise that he should fix things? What was Ace really running away from?

I enjoyed reading The Guilt Trip because it shares a strong male storyline and family values . I recommend this book to anyone enjoys family and redemption stories.
