Happy New Year, everyone and welcome to this week’s Booking Through Thursday post!
So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all?
Name me at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!
MY RESPONSE:
I’m a work-in-progress and I stopped making resolutions during my 20s because I never kept them. LOL. I’m sure there are others who can relate.
However, I do have reading goals and here’s several of them:
Read at least 100 books this year.
Read the books in my to read pile.
Any book I buy during 2009…READ IT IN 2009.
Continue to search for and recommend books by African American authors.
Check the library for books prior to purchasing them at the book store.
Continue APOOO book club, Web site and promotional services.
Participate ACTIVELY in ONLY one other online book club group during the year. (I unsubscribed during the fall from about 20 groups because I got tired of trying to keep up with all of them.)
Specific books I plan to read: CLICK HERE for the APOOO First Quarter 2009 African American Literature Reading Challenge (and if you haven’t done so please feel free to join us.)
At least, ONE BOOK I’m looking forward to reading this year:
Children of the Waters by Carleen Brice
and another book that I just discovered:
The cover grabbed my attention…and I went off to find a book description but I couldn’t find one at amazon or even the publisher, Simon and Schuster. So much for advanced promotions…sigh. Okay, here’s what I found:
Sulay Hernandez at Touchstone/Fireside has acquired a debut novel titled Hold Love Strong by Matthew Aaron Goodman via agent Victoria Sanders, who sold world rights. The book centers on a young man’s harrowing upbringing in a Queens housing project and the fierce bonds of family, including a heroic grandmother, that enable him to survive. Pub is early 2009.
Hmmm…I think I’m going to request a review copy of this one…after my last urban fiction read I’m not sure I’m ready for another ‘literary’ version.

For the past few years I’ve made it a goal to read at 100 books a year and I’ve be able to do that. Hope that continues with this year. Specific books I plan to read would include by 13 First Quarter Reading Challenge books. One book I look forward to reading this year is LITTLE BLACK GIRL LOST 4 by Keith Lee Johnson.

Congrats Toni on meeting your annual reading goal and good luck on the First Quarter Challenge…although I don’t think you will have any problems.
I am looking forward to Basketball Jones just because I like E Lynn Harris. Oh I almost forgot, the next book in the Thug series by Wahida Clark. I really like her books. I too want to read all of the books that are in my pile that I have not read yet. I will also be more aware of buying and reading the books I buy in 2009. I also want to make sure that I keep my spreadsheet current with all of my 2009 reads.

Children of the Waters by Carleen Brice.
I don’t know about many of the others coming out, but the excerpt I’ve read about Brice’s book has me sitting on the edge of my seat with anticipation.
I don’t do resolutions because I feel like I’m lying to myself when I don’t do everything. I feel like I failed and I don’t like the feeling of failure. However, my husband said I need to develop more patience. So in 2009, I will try to be more patient in my everyday life and even with those who travel through all days like it is Sunday.

Read 100 books in 2009. As simple as that. I did 95 in 2008, the first time I was under 100 in several years.
