Are you a spine breaker? No! And will bring harm to the person that does it to any of my books.

Or a dog-earer? See above.

Do you expect to keep your books in pristine condition even after you have read them? Yes, all my books are in excellent shape.

Does watching other readers bend the cover all the way round make you flinch or squeal in pain? Not as long as it's not my copy.

I order a lot of my books from used booksellers (in an effort to remain in my book budget) so a lot of them come in pretty good shape but well used. The books that I purchase unfortunately I don't take as good of care as I should so I dog-ear, eat while reading (especially Flamin Hot Lays Potato chips- so some of the pages are red) but will get a straight-up attitude if I loan a book out and it does not come back correct. Although I take really good care of the hardcovers, the paperbacks-not so much.

Jennifer, you're not alone...I just read a couple of other blogs where folks mentioned that they had germaphobia and that's why they didn't check out books from the library...hehe.

Yes I was one of those people speaking about the disgusting books at the library. I actually take a clorox wipe and wipe down the books. I hate going to the library, but sometimes I have to go there and read somethings I really don't want to own, but want to read.

LaShonda, The Cassandra Cookbook is a review book for me as well. My review will be available soon.

It bothers me when others do not take the care with MY books which is why I do not lent them out except to my family. I hate to see people so cavilier about books,, "It's just a book, god." irks me. I was taught to respect books.

Jennifer..I have the Cassandra Cookbook for a review. I just got it in the mail today.

Now onto the topic....I am a book snob. All of my books are handled with care and I do not like to loan books to people who do not treat them the same. I have been known to break a few spines back in the day, but now, I love my books to have the just from the book store look. I do take them in the bathtub with me, have not dropped one yet.

I treat all my books with a white glove type of treatment. I don't dog ear the pages, break the spine, roll the cover back. I feel ill if I have to read anything in that type of condition. In order for me to loan my books out I have to see how that person cares for their books. My mother, sister and I are all the same when it comes to our books.

I've always been this way. I've got mass market paperbacks that have been read by my mother and I and you would think we just purchased it.

Currently I am reading The Cassandra Cookbook by Shawn James. It's very good. Up next is Butta Cutz by Arlene Brathwaite.

I won't damage any first edition hardcover or paperback.

If it's a "classic" or mass market paperback - sure, I'll highlight and make notes in the margin. I consider those easily replaceable.

lol Good question and you might be surprised at my answer since i'm also an author but I am guilty of dog earring books. (shhh....dont' tell nobody...smile).

It's like a bookmarker is never around when I pick up a book to read and because I don't want to lose my place I either throw a piece of paper in between the pages or dog ear it. Don't get me wrong, most of my books are in good condition---some still look like I bought them off the shelf. The only ones that might not be are the ones I loaned to someone. I hate when I let someone borrow a book and they don't give it back to me in the same condition. I am very picky on who I do let borrow my books for that reason.

<abbr><em>Shelia´s last blog post..<a href="http://sheliagoss.com/2008/10/30/contests-reminder/" rel="nofollow">Contests Reminder</a></abbr></em>
