It’s wet, rainy, cold, dreary and expected to get worst here in Harrisburg. All I want to do is curl up with a good book, blanket and fire in the fireplace. But, doctor’s appointment, girl’s basketball, competitive cheer leading practice, phone calls and the Verizon FIOS sales rep (who came to my home…wow…they make house calls now…and I understand…folks got to hustle for a living these days) have kept me from doing me. Sigh.

I was a latecomer to the Dianne McKinney-Whetstone fan club. I did not discover her until I was at a BEA event, where Blues Dancing was introduced. After taking a gamble on reading Blues Dancing, and being thoroughly enthralled by Whetstone’s descriptive writing, vivid imagery, and well-developed characters, I was a Whetstone convert/fan and quickly ran out and purchased all of her previous releases. I love her writing style. Not only does Whetstone give us memorable characters but she also makes us feel as though we’re right there living with them in their world. It’s as though we’re walking and living with them for the brief time we’re a part of their lives. All of her books are set against the backdrop of Philadelphia (West Philly to be exact) and reader’s are quickly immersed into the city and its dwellers…it’s as though location is a character…because so much attention and detail is paid to scenery and locales. Thank God for a Book Giveaway, Blood Colony by Tananarive Due (Day 17)

Tananarive Due is a very versatile author, who’s probably best known for her best selling novel in the ‘blood series’, My Soul to Keep, followed by The Living Blood and her latest release, Blood Colony. I fell in love with Dawit/David and Tananarive Due when I first met him and was introduced to her via My Soul to Keep. The latest release, Blood Colony, delves into the world of David and Jessica’s daughter, Fana. Fana is typical of most teens who are in a hurry to grow up so that they can be independent and do things their way without ever having to answer to anyone. Unfortunately, Fana is not typical or a normal teen, and when she decides to do it her way, her actions have ramifications that are far reaching and wide. They affect others…actually many. If you’ve read the previous books in the series, I recommend you give the latest book a try. For others who are new to Tananarive Due, I recommend you enter to win a copy of Blood Colony…and also purchase the first two books or borrow them from the library to experience the ‘whole’ blood experience with David, Jessica and Fana. Once you enter their world, you might not want to return to ours.

Hey APOOOers! It’s the weekend and time to get loose and ‘wicked’…lol. It’s been a week…with ups and downs…but still I rise. Looking forward to the weekend and getting a little ‘wicked’…lol…again…hehe. Got a brand new copy of Wicked Ways by Donna Hill in the mail this week. I Remember reading the hard cover when it came out last Fall and really getting caught up in the read. It’s a good EPO, entertainment purposes only, read and one that’s easy to relax with. DISCLAIMER: This is the sequel to Getting Hers, while I believe reading Getting Hers will enhance the reading of Wicked Ways, it’s not necessary. There’s enough back story in Wicked Ways to keep up with what’s going on. APOOO reviewer Lena Willis had this to say about Wicked Ways:

The story was a well-told, page-turner that held me until the very end. I recommend Wicked Ways to readers that enjoy a sexy read filled with suspense and intrigue.
