I’ve been terribly remiss in my self-care lately. I’ve got lots of excuses for it, but it simply boils down to the fact that I always put myself last.

This has been a busy week. Of course, we all know about the best-laid plans going awry, and all that. And that was certainly the case with me this week.

Last week, The Girl was in her school’s production(seven performances to be exact) of High School Musical. Somehow, I have actually managed to avoid seeing this movie, as well as its sequels. Yay me.

As I write this post, I am sitting in a hospital room across from my mother.  She underwent a scheduled surgery earlier today.  The room is silent, except for the humming of the machines and the child-like sleep sounds coming from Mom. Three of the Lunch Ladies (what I call my mom’s posse’) just left.  They [...]

This is my idea of a great spring break. Notice the steps leading directly to the beach, the Adirondack chairs for lounging. And no folks in sight.

Today I asked a girlfriend what some “me time” would look like for her. Like if she spent a couple of nights in a hotel as a getaway. She’s a writer. Her “me time” included her computer so that she could get some writing done. Her mind drew a blank at having non-scheduled time for herself. It’s does not exist in her world right now.

My Mojo was just waiting for me to start asking questions like- What other route can I take to reach my goal? What else can I get going while waiting for this other thing to jump off? What do I need to let go in order to move forward? My mojo wanted me to give up the helpless role. So I did.

Folks get on a roll with their cleaning. The closets, the windows, the garage, heck, even the car. It’s funny though. This year I did spring cleaning in my relationships.

My days as a full-time parent are numbered.
Support bras are much sexier than the ones my mother used to wear. And they have matching panties.

So far, Lil Kim’s makeover has been subtle. You know there’s something different, but you can’t quite put your hands on it. After 20+ years of working with folks and trying to facilitate change, I know that the changes that stick the best are the ones we move into with thought, caution, and careful consideration.
