Hello APOOOers and welcome to another week. The weekend was full so I’m happy to be home today. Relaxing, Reading, Reflecting. Anybody remember the Pointer Sisters and their ‘different’ look. It’s sad, but by today’s standards, they probably wouldn’t stand a chance. Sigh. For some reason, one of their songs, Yes We Can Can, has been on my mind. Maybe it’s because of the Yes We Can reference. LOL. Anywho, I recall it being a favorite when it first came out. So, I thought I would feature it on today’s Soulful Sunday blog (it’s r&b but it has a inspirational message) for your listening pleasure. For those who are old enough to remember when it first came out (early 70s), take a stroll down memory lane. For those who are too young, listen anyway and share your thoughts in the comments section.

To everyone, I hope that today you will do something just for you, just because.

Have a good one everyone.

ON THIS SOULFOOD SUNDAY…this is really food for thought…AN OBAMA LOVE STORY…There’s something about us. Check out today’s video of Barack and Michelle Obama. Before you see the credits, can you tell me who sings the song? I ACTUALLY LOVE IT and did not realize he sung it.

Two RethuglicanRepublican perspectives on Sarah Palin.

On Friday night, I was at my son’s high school football game (he’s a junior, varsity and yes he starts…hehe) and I was sitting with a girlfriend and her family and my girlfriend turned the conversation to politics (she’s Dem and her dad is ReThug) and obviously had a bone to pick with him. She reminded her dad that he didn’t like Hillary and didn’t think that a female should be President so why the heck does he think that Sarah Palin is so qualified. Mind you, her dad is former military, very conservative and a senior citizen (who looks like he has one foot in the grave…but you didn’t hear that from me…hehe) and doesn’t appear to be very open-minded about anything/anybody other than his bi-racial grandkids who he LOVES to death. I keep thinking there’s hope for him…but hmmm I ain’t holding my breathe…hehe. Anywho, in response to my girlfriend’s question…guess what her dad said…the reason that he gave as to why he doesn’t mind Palin being on the ticket…yep you guessed it…

She’s a Rethuglican Republican!

WTF…see how they talk out of both sides of their mouths. Hmmm hmmm hmmph!

APOOO family and friends…WELCOME TO ANOTHER WEEK!

Hopefully this week will be MUCH BETTER than last week. Many of us witnessed something that we never thought we would see during our lifetime…the almost collapse of the US financial system. For many it was a wake-up call and a scary feeling. The worse isn’t behind us yet…and for many of us it will require tightening our belts and forgoing wants and unfortunately some of our needs.

CNN Morning conducted a survey where they asked “What are you giving up” because of the economy. The usual answers included eating out, cable, movies, buying a new car, purchasing a new home, kids allowances, et al. One woman even mentioned renter’s insurance. NO, NO don’t do it…if you think you’re bad off now…what if a catastrophe occurs and your property is destroyed…now what?

If my grandparents and parents were alive, they would say KEEP THE FAITH, PRAY and focus on your blessings. So, in honor of our ancestors, name one thing that you’re thankful for today. I’ll start it off and then I’ll ask each of you to leave a comment with something DIFFERENT. Despite what’s going on around us, hopefully we will KEEP THE FAITH and find a bright spot in the midst of blight.

To bring a little sunshine or smile…or LOL moment your way…here’s some freebies.

First, the Boni Jovi video…I perused YouTube to find an inspirational/gospel video that included the word Faith. Guess what video was the first to come up? Yep, Keep the Faith by Bon Jovi. Now, I am familiar with Bon Jovi’s music, but they were the last group that I was looking for an ‘inspirational’ tune from. I am including it here for your listening pleasure (or not). If you can think of any other songs that include ‘Faith’ in the title, please send them my way.

In my blog-hopping this morning, I found the following FREE BOOK contests. Click on the links to check them out, and if you know of any other contests leave the link in the comments section. If you have a contest, feel free to promote it here as well.

Hello APOOO family and friends and Happy Labor Day Weekend!

Just got off the phone with an older sorority sister–who had just spoken to her brother in Cali about Barack Obama. She is so passionate about Obama and this upcoming election that her joy overfloweth. Not only is she encouraging folks with her words, but she is also working hard on the campaign trail. Everyone who comes into her path feels her energy and TRUST you do not walk away without getting CAUGHT UP…caught up for something good that it is. My soror remembers the Jim Crow laws, segregation (even tho’ she was raised up North), the Civil Rights movement, marching on Washington, the riots of 1968, doors being open in corporate America…but there is one door that still remains closed to us. She wants to see that door opened during her lifetime…and she is doing her part…for her it is about more than simple rhetoric or feel good moments. Yes, she is emotional about this election…but unlike many, she is also invested and committed…and she is supporting Obama and encouraging others…what about YOU?

Need a little encouragement today? Sometimes we have to step out of our comfort zone to sow seeds in someone else’s ministry in order to shake off our own weights and concerns. Listen to John P. Kee and be encouraged to help someone else today.

TODAY’S BIBLE VERSE: Isaiah 41:10 Fear not; for I am with you. Be not dismayed; for I am your God. I will strengthen you; yea, I will help you; yea, I will uphold you with the right hand of My righteousness.

Amazing what a difference a day or 24 hours can make. Last Sunday, I had two themes I could have used but I could only use one. Since my brother was heavy on my heart, I chose this ONE. Decided to use the other theme for today…but then something funny happened along the way. Obama announced his VP candidate–although how come I received my text message after MSN broke the story–but I digress lol–Joe Biden is his choice and the man of the hour. It ain’t no lie, I am disappointed. I was hoping against hope that Obama would do something more in line with his change platform. So far it appears as more of the same ole…oh well…sigh. Good news is that Obama still has my support…because I am voting for him for President and I will live with his choice for VP. Also, I have a few sorors/book club members who are already sending me information on why they believe Biden is a good choice. They might make a believer out of me yet. But tell them don’t hold their breath. LOL.

In the meantime, APOOO dedicates No Weapons by Fred Hammond to the Obama/Biden ticket.

BIBLE VERSE: No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn.
DISCUSSION QUESTION

Is there STILL a place for politics in the African American church? Why or why not?

Are you surprised by Obama's choice for VP? If so, who would you have chosen and why?

What books about politics are you reading or plan to read before the end of the year?

Hello APOOO family and friends!

It’s Sunday and the start of a new week and a new theme for APOOO. This has been on my heart for awhile and this morning at 7:30AM EST when my middle brother called (yet again) it was definitely brought to the forefront. Today APOOO kicks off SoulFul Sundays. Each Sunday I will feature a song (or two) along with a Bible verse (yes the Bible…it is a book…lol) based on what is going on in my life or those of my APOOO family and friends. So, if you want to get a Word…send me an email offloop and I will lift you on Sunday morning with a Song of Praise and a Word/bible verse. Now, I encourage you to grab a cup of coffee, sit back, relax and listen to Yolanda Adam’s sing the Battle is the Lord’s.

Today’s post is dedicated to my brother–Keith, no matter what you are going through remember God wants a chance to use you–the battle is not yours it’s the Lord’s.

1 Samuel 17:47 (New International Version)
“All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”
