Celebrate the South Blog Tour

In Patricia Neely-Dorsey’s fascinating book of poetry, Reflections of a Mississippi Magnolia, is a true celebration of the south and things southern. Using childhood memories, personal thoughts  and dreams, the author offers a positive glimpse into the southern way of life.

The author states, “There are so many negative connotations associated with Mississippi and the south in general. I want to to show a flip side of the coin. There is much to love about this much maligned and misunderstood part of our country.”

Interview with Patricia Neely-Dorsey (Part 2)
I love the  weather, the beautiful landscapes, the relationships, the importance of family, country living and the more laid back pace than in most other areas.  Of course, I can’t leave out ..THE FOOD!!!! In the South we are ALL about the FOOD!! You’ll find that out in my book. (LOL)

What are some elements of living in The South that you really enjoy?

Would you say you are an extrovert or introvert?
Oh my goodness, I am such a absolute middle-of-the road blend of both, especially now. I consider myself a very private person and prefer socializing among small intimate groups of friends/people. But, with the book, I have opened my self wide open. I have my whole life on display in the book and I have to do a lot of socializing and speaking with large groups of people.

I totally relate now to those actors who often say that they are really very shy, private, introverted people. I never really understood that before because I couldn’t see how that could be possible, being all “out there” and “on” all of the time. Now, I totally understand.

Tell us about some activities you enjoy doing during your free time.
I love to read. I love to write. I love listening to music and I love spending time with family.

Do you like to cook? If so, what are your favorite dishes to cook (or eat)?
I am not really a cook. You’ll learn about that in the book (LOL)
But I do love to eat!! You’ll learn about that, also, in the book. (LOL)
I am a connoisseur of good food. (LOL)
I love “southern food”!
I love fried okra, fried catfish, fried porkchops ( there seems to be a theme here) barbecue ribs, cabbage..the list goes on..and on!

Do you have a favorite bible verse and or quote you wish to share?

Delight thyself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalm 37:4)

What one piece of advice did someone give that still sticks with you to this day?
A friend once told me when I would get discouraged about not  getting the outcome that I was looking for in a certain situation…”Just because one person said no..doesn’t mean everyone is saying no.”

That really reminds me to always be persistent and never give up. I have learned by experience that if God closes a door, He will certainly open a window.

What brings you the most joy?
Other than the obvious joy found in knowing God, my greatest joy is my family , especially watching my son Henry grow into a wonderful young man.

  3. Hi Pat,

Congratulations on the book and what looks like a great blog tour.

Whenever I heard Tupelo, Mississippi I think of a John Grisham novel. I’m curious if you’ve ever read any of his novels that feature Missississippi – Tupelo in particular and if you think he accurately captures the essence of life in Tupelo and rural Mississippi.

  4. Greetings Patricia and thank you for hanging out with APOOO today…and I so agree with the advice given to you.
…”Just because one person said no..doesn’t mean everyone is saying no.”

  7. Rhonda, Yes, I think John Grisham seamlessly describes Mississippi..Tupelo and surrounding areas. He is masterful! Its like an old friend just telling you about what’s going on in a place you already know about. To me he descibes the places so that if you had never been there , you almost think you had..
He has a home very near Tupelo, so he knows the area very well.He still does booksignings at a bookstore in Tupelo that was one of the few bookstores that welcomed him with open arms when he was a struggling self-published author trying to get established. It is the same book store that I had my very first booksigning. It is also where you can get my book..Reed’s Gumtree Bookstore

  11. Hi Patricia,

I’m glad to be here. I’m always ready to celebrate the South. Your book has such a pretty title. I’m sure the poetry is lovely too. Thanks for taking time to write a book to help others and myself appreciate the South more each day.

  12. I have always said there is something about the South – I’m from the mid-Atlantic, but I love the history, the look of the land, the foliage, and of course, the food!
