I am one of those people, who wonders will we ever see flying cars and machines that operate by voice command. Cozened: A Cybil Lewis Novel by Nicole Givens Kurtz gave me a look into what the world may be like in the year 2144 and on. Fruits, vegetables, and meals are hard to come by depending on which territory you live in. Humans are not the only ones walking what is left of Earth. Surrounding all these interesting tidbits with a fire cracker of a private investigator and Givens has given us a fast paced fun and exciting world to read about.

Cybil Lewis is a private investigator who is trying to retrieve the journal of a previous political figure. When mysterious things begin happening every way she turns, Cybil needs to get to the bottom of it all, even though she did not like the way she was asked to take the case. Men who she had business relationships with that may have crossed over into a friendship are all coming into her life, asking questions about not only the case of the public official and his family, but also  about her ex-boyfriend who winds up dead. The regulators (police of the future) deem his death an accident, but to Cybil something seemed out of place. While all of these mysterious things are occurring she is making sure that her protégé, Jane is learning as much about the business as possible.

Cozened: A Cybil Lewis Novel has mystery and suspense and really good fight scenes all incorporated propelling the story forward. The characters were all just as exciting and mysterious as the story itself. Through all the excitement some of the information regarding the timeline blurred from time to time. I am not sure if it was due to the fact that I was reading an uncorrected proof or that the story was moving along so quickly that days blended together and there was a time lapse. As long as all the proper editing is done, anyone can truly enjoy Kurtz’s writing without feeling a bit discombobulated. I recommend Cozened: A Cybil Lewis Novel to lovers of mystery and science fiction.
