I can’t believe that not only is December almost over but so is the year.  As with any year, 2008 had its ups and downs and a new year is a welcome relief as we look forward to out with the old and in with the new.  But, for many of the members of APOOO, some things are constant.  As a book club, specifically one that specializes in African American Literature, getting our reading groove on is always front and center.  No matter how busy we might get, most members seem to always make time for a good book, to support an author, to promote the author/book via word-of-mouth and to discuss with book club members.

Even with the hustle and bustle of the holidays, December is no exception for the APOOO bibliophiles.  Provided below is a list of books that members have read, enjoyed and recommended to others.  Do you see any of your favorites on the list?

  1. Hmm, I am surprised that The Shack made the list. I have not read this book, but most tell me that it is “the” book to read. RIght now, I am reading Quade’s Babies by Brenda Jackson and I am loving it. Thanks for the list.

  2. Yep it made the list and hmmm I just realized that’s it’s on there even tho’ it’s not AfAm Lit; what can I say APOOO has eclectic readers. LOL.

  3. Everywhere I turn I see mention of The Chack. I think I am going to have to check this book out.

  4. Heard this but I don’t know if its true, but someone says that Jesus, or God is depicted as a Black woman…guess I got to read it to find out if its true. I am going to check the book out this afternoon from the library.

  5. Rosie that’s true God.

  6. Read CLIMAX. It was just okay for me. Little over the top, particularly the toe scene. If you read the book, you know what I’m talking about! Ewww. Loved DYING FOR REVENGE. Wouldn’t mind seeing Gideon make a guest appearance in a future book of EJD. Still on my list to read: MIDNIGHT (plan to read some time in January) and Quade’s Babies, which I’m sure I’ll enjoy because BJ is one of my favs.
