Would you say you are an extrovert or introvert?

Hmm, I think it depends on the situation. I’m naturally shy, so I have a tendency to be an introvert. However, if I’m in a situation where I’m comfortable, I can definitely be extroverted. My friends would be surprised to hear about the shy part, and that I consider myself partially an introvert.

Do you like to cook? If so, what are your favorite dishes to cook?

Cooking is one of my least favorite things to do.  I cook out of necessity, for my family, but I’d rather clean the house any day and leave the cooking to my hubby! LOL Still, I have a few dishes that people rave about. My kids love the chocolate cakes I bake “from scratch” and they love the dressing (stuffing) I cook during the holidays. I also get a lot of requests for my carrot cakes.

Are you a sports fan? If so, tell us about your favorite sports and/or sports team.

I’m one of those sports fans who knows very little about how the game is played, but loves the idea of sportsmanship and supporting certain players and teams with redeeming stories. Does that count? LOL For example, I’ve declared myself a Dallas fan, simply because I’ve followed this team since childhood and I really do want them to comeback and show the world what ‘dem Cowboys are all about!

Are there any other hobbies you wish to share?

I spend a lot of time writing these days, so I don’t get to enjoy my hobbies as much as I’d like to. Along with writing books, I write a freelance parenting column for a daily newspaper and a faith-based column for teens. I also do marketing for nonprofit agencies. And, I happen to have two children – ages 11 and 8. With all of that on my plate, these days I simply dream about playing tennis, which I really enjoy. I also like listening to music – gospel, jazz and R&B – travel, and, of course, read.

What movie(s) have you watched recently that you would recommend?

I’ve recently enjoyed Avatar, The Blindside, Julie and Julia and TP’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself. Outside of those, I’ve mostly watched kid-friendly movies, including Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Do you like books being turned into a movie? If so, what is your favorite book-to-movie?

Yes, I do. I always try to read the book first, but I like seeing how the director interpreted the book and tried to bring the characters to life. One of my recent favorites was Secret Life of Bees.

If Dreams That Won’t Let Go? was turned into a movie who would you cast to play your characters?

Kerry Washington would play Indigo; Hill Harper would play her brother Reuben. I’m still figuring out who’d play Max, but a younger version of LL Cool J would work!

Which social networks do you enjoy the most?

I’m addicted to Facebook, of course! I’ve been cutting back lately, though, because I have a writing deadline for a new project. When I’m away, I feel like I’m missing time with friends.

What’s next for you?

My first nonfiction book, Who Speaks To Your Heart? Tuning in to God’s Whispers, will be released in early May. And as I mentioned, I’m working on some new ideas – more fiction, with all new characters, so I’m excited.

Thanks so much for hosting me! I’m honored.

About the Book

Indigo Burns is excited. Her wedding preparations to the man of her dreams are underway, her photography career is a success, and her family seems to be doing better than ever—all except her brother Reuben, who nobody has seen in years. But that’s about to change.

When Reuben decides to move back home to Jubilant, Texas, he hopes to find healing with his sisters. But Indigo isn’t so sure their relationship can be mended. And when younger sister Yasmin makes a life-altering choice, it seems like only a miracle can put the Burns family back together.

Will these siblings – and the rest of their family -  ever be able to love unconditionally and release each other to live their dreams?

  1. Oh golly, I would love to read all of those books. Maybe I’m too old to be true. But I know that’s a falsity. I would love to write Black fiction.

  2. Great interview….
My dream that is bursting to come out is to complete my book and be lucky enough to get it published.

  4. Stacy, I have so many dreams that I would love to be birthed but I know that some are just not possible right now. One is our educational system….I can only pray at this point. My personal dream would be to find that one person that the Lord wants me to have in my life that is going to love me just for me. I want to find the one man that will love the inside more than the outside because that is how I was raised. I thought I had it all at one time but after 20 years, it didn’t work out for him. His loss, not mines. :)
One more….I would like to become a proofreader for authors when I retire, which might be at the end of June.

  5. Awesome comments!

Yasmin, thank you for hosting the Dreams That Won’t Let Go Blog Tour today. Have a Blessed Weekend.

    - Ty
