Hey APOOO family! Okay, so a number of you have heard me moaning and groaning about my to-read-pile. I know all right…enough already. LOL. So, I’m going to do something about it. I’m joining a challenge which will force me to read at least one book a week for the next 13 weeks and remove 13 books from my list.
So, what books should I read? Hmmm…ones that I can finish in one sitting or at least will hold my interest long enough for me to return to them before the end of a particular week.
What books made the list?
Blood Colony by Tananarive Due FINISHED
Death, Deceit & Some Smooth Jazz by Claudia Mair Burney
Dying for Revenge by Eric Jerome Dickey FINISHED
Gather Together in My Name by Tracy Price-Thompson FINISHED
House at Sugar Beach by Helene Cooper FINISHED and LOVED THIS BOOK…Definitely a Top 10!
Midnight by Sister Souljah FINISHED BUT A DISAPPOINTING READ. 2.0
Passing for Black by Linda Villarosa FINISHED 3.5
Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd FINISHED 4.0
Sinful Too by Victor McGlothin FINISHED 4.0
Stand the Storm by Breena Clarke; Finished Rating 3.0

Sweetsmoke by David Fuller
Up Pops the Devil by Angela Benson FINISHED
UPDATED: My list might change a little…have a few new books that I want to add to the list…while I might not get to all of these, I do hope to finish any 13 on the list before the end of the year.

Sue Monk Kidd
I hope to get to the last two before the year is out. The other one I’m in no rush.

Death, Deceit and Some Smooth Jazz was a really great read. Just wanted to be certain that you read the first one, Murder, Mayhem & a Fine Man first, because you meet the characters in that one. I love the title, FALL INTO READING!
Nardsbaby’s last blog post..Nardsbaby gave 5 stars to: Nan
Dying for Revenge by Eric Jerome Dickey
Midnight by Sister Souljah
Those are 2 books on my list. I also have to read E Lynn Harris’s new book. House at Sugar Beach by Helene Cooper is a book that someone in one of my yahoo groups mentioned so I am going to have to check that out. Also, today on my yahoo group I found this, His First Wife by Grace Octavia…I went to Amazon and read the excerpts they have available. I am about to call my local borders to make sure they have this one for me on the release date. Yes I just commented a few days ago that I have over 75 books in my TBR pile, but I hate to pass up a good book. She also has another book out that I am going to check out Take her Man…boy, I am going tohave to move my husband out of our room soon. there will be no room for him.
My book club LOVED The Secret Life of Bees. We all came to our meeting wearing big fancy hats (like the Sisters of Mary in the book). We’re looking forward to seeing the movie together when it finally comes out!
Heather J.’s last blog post..BBAW: List of the Winners
Hey Heather J…I entered a contest and was just told that 10 books of the Secret Bees are headed to me for the book club. Some of us are going to read it and post our reviews the week of 10/12th…I’m geeked!
Reading Stand the Storm right now. Historical fiction read about slavery and free folks of colored in Georgetown (Washington, DC) during the mid-1800s. So far it’s just an average read for me. Sigh.
I’m actually getting some reading done because of this challenge…I marked another two books off the list:
Passing for Black by Linda Villarosa
Up Pops the Devil by Angela Benson
Next Up:
Blood Colony by Tananarive Due
Reviews coming next week.
yasmin´s last blog post..Ophelea: There is More to Life Than Man, by Raphael T. Irie
I can mark off a copy of other books:
Blood Colony by Tananarive Due
Song Yet Sung by James McBride
Up Next:
Dying for Revenge by Eric Jerome Dickey
I might have to join you. My TBR pile is so high I can get on a ladder and see over it. You have me inspired.
Hop aboard Monique…we can do it together.
Well, you have to read House at Sugar Beach and Midnight because they are BOMs. Sweetsmoke was kind of slow going but worth it. Sinful and Death, Deceit are probably quick reads. The rest might take some glue to the seat, not because they are boring or slow but they are not contemporary or EPOs.
Dera´s last blog post..Fall into Fiction 2008
Thanks Dera for feedback.
Seven down…six to go…finished Dying For Revenge…up next is The House at Sugar Beach by Helene Cooper.
I absolutely LOVED the House at Sugar Beach…highly recommend it to those who enjoy reading memoirs or books about other cultures.
Hey I’m on a roll! Just finished Sinful Too. Great EPO rate. Check it out if you like plot driven books with lots of drama. Only 3 more books to read before I achieve my goal. Wish me luck!
You are really making a dent Yasmin. You inspire me.
Dera´s last blog post..My name is Dera and I am a bookaholic
I finally finished Midnight…understood it wasn’t a sequel but it wasn’t a compelling read either.
I made it but plan to push myself more by reading
20 books, writing 20 reviews by Jan 20th. My bookselves
Are about to fall because they r so full.
Oh my gosh 20 reviews by 1/20…YGG…I’m cheering for you!
Okay, I have been looking at The House at Sugar Beach for months now on my book shelf and have not read it, I am doing so this weekend – So many have said nothing but good things about this book – My to read stack is “off the chain” I have so many books that authors have sent to me (hey being a book club President has it’s perks) I am inspired by the Fall into Reading theme and I am going to make a dent in some of these over the next few days – On my shelf that I plan to read before the end of the year are:
The House at Sugar Beach
Dying for Revenge
Blood Colony
Divorcing the Devil
Secret Lives of Bees
Zephanie go for it sis and I don’t think you will be disappointed with House or Secret Lives…if you enjoyed the first two Gideon books you should enjoy Dying for Revenge…and the Blood Colony while the weakest in the series for me…was still a good read…Divorcing you’re on your own I haven’t read that one yet…hehe.
I saw several on your list that are on my list… Uggggg
Guess I am not going to be any help
