I was a latecomer to the Dianne McKinney-Whetstone fan club. I did not discover her until I was at a BEA event, where Blues Dancing was introduced. After taking a gamble on reading Blues Dancing, and being thoroughly enthralled by Whetstone’s descriptive writing, vivid imagery, and well-developed characters, I was a Whetstone convert/fan and quickly ran out and purchased all of her previous releases. I love her writing style. Not only does Whetstone give us memorable characters but she also makes us feel as though we’re right there living with them in their world. It’s as though we’re walking and living with them for the brief time we’re a part of their lives. All of her books are set against the backdrop of Philadelphia (West Philly to be exact) and reader’s are quickly immersed into the city and its dwellers…it’s as though location is a character…because so much attention and detail is paid to scenery and locales. That sounds like an interesting read. I love books with backdrops near and dear to me. I have not read anything by this author yet. I am always up for new things.
