In his last book, Something on the Side, Carl Weber appeared to be branching out and spreading his wings. I remember reading Lookin’ for Luv when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. That book(Lookin’ for Luv) made me laugh and forget my fears…if only for a moment. I came through that traumatic time, and eight years later I’m still moving forward and Carl Weber is still writing books. Albeit, the last one is a little, okay a lot more erotic than Lookin’ for Luv ever was. Actually as funny as Lookin’ for Luv was…this one is probably as filled with sex, sex, sex and more sex. The ladies of the Big Girls Book Club seem to have a lot more on their mind than discussing books. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
(All are about Carl Weber)
Have you read any books by Carl Weber?
If so, what are some of your favorite reads?
Who are some of your favorite Weber characters?
If you could have dinner with Weber, what character would you want to know more about?
Webers writing has changed since he first burst on the scene. Do you have a preference for his writing style? Do you want more of what it was like when he first started out or do you believe it’s time for him to move on…as he had in his last couple of titles.
It’s Thanksgiving and you’re inviting Mr. Weber to dinner…what do you think the affair will be like? (What type of guest will he be? What will you serve for dinner? What type of board or card games will you play? The sky’s the limit…and creativity is encouraged).

Does it count that I have Carl Weber’s book on my shelf, but I have never read any of his books?
This just goes to show I really need to read what I have and stop buying books. Nah, just kidding. I will buy and read.

Have you read any books by Carl Weber? Yes, as they were released I read everything up through THE PREACHER’S SON. Haven’t read anything after that.
If so, what are some of your favorite reads? MARRIED MEN and LOOKIN’ FOR LUV.
Who are some of your favorite Weber characters? The guys from MARRIED MEN.
If you could have dinner with Weber, what character would you want to know more about? I can’t remember her name or what book she was from but she put her husband out and starting working on herself.

Do you want more of what it was like when he first started out or do you believe it’s time for him to move on…as he had in his last couple of titles. I liked his older books. His drama just got a little over the top and Jerry Springerish for me, which is why I haven’t read any of his latest books.

Since I baked lasagna for EJD, I’ma fry some chicken for Carl and then whip him in a game of Bid Whist!

I read so much that I am rarely surprised by the twists and turns that books take. I can often guess what will happen next…But let me tell YOU that Carl Weber’s books make me scream, gasp and laugh out loud! He is the only author that gets me every time! Especially in “So You Call Yourself a Man.” I can’t wait to read ‘Something on the Side!’

Jennifer…if you have Lookin’ For Luv read that one…lots of laugh out loud moments.
Ms. Toni, I hear you about the over the top antics…lots of those in Something on the Side.
Monica, Something on the Side will have you going…WTF?!?!
I have read two books by Carl Weber - The First Lady and You Call Yourself A Man. I may have a couple of more books on my shelf unread.
While I enjoyed both books - I would have to say my fav of the two is You Call Yourself A Man. It was interesting to read a book that focused on male characters instead of the female characters.
I’ve read Looking for Luv and Married Men. Love the combination of drama and humor, very difficult to pull off in writing. Also appreciate the balance in his characters, not one note characters (lots of layers). Been awhile since i read a Weber book and it’s about time i caught up with his writing again.
Carl Weber…his books are getting more and more misogynistic and we are buying them in droves. Can he write about a smart woman that makes good choices? Or does he believe we are all silly drama queens basking constantly in denial as he portrays us?
I liked all his books so far. But his first books are the best.

I love Carl Webber!
He is an awesome writer and his books are so realistic. His writings are something that I think we all can relate to…not that we all have “baby mama drama”, but we know folks going through similar issues. Thanks Apooo for this chance to win a book from a great author!!
I have read this book Something On The Side! It was a very good book. I don’t currently own it, I borrowed it from the library, so I would love the chance to win it! Thanks for this opportunity APOO! My favorite book from him was So You Call Yourself A Man! Definitely a classic!
this I am on the waiting list at our library for…
if he came to dinner I imagine him in sexy casual- a clean cut shirt, not a polo and casual jeans or khakis with nice shoes not hitops. What do I serve if he came at Thanksgiving…he gets the same thing they all get- turkey, ham, lasagne, pumpkin cheesecake, apple pie and chocolate cake- oh there are vegetables and all but nothing is made special for anyone- even a guest sorry. What would we play- scrabble in teams is fun….or playing video games with the kids.Yes there would be chat, but Thanksgiving is casual and yes I would ask alot of questions, but you deserve to relax too. would love to read- mrs.mommyy@gmail.com
I’ve read off of Carl Weber’s books and have them on my bookshelf. My favorites are
So ou Call Yourelf A Man, Preacher’s Wife, Married Men. I would love to hear more about the behind the scene personality and evolement of his protagnoists in So You Call Yourself a Man and Preacher’s Son. him for a great meal of Memphis Barbque at a fun restaurant because though he is a private man, he loves to have decent fun and great conversation. For Thanksgiving I would have every day down to earth people, who know him and those who want to get to know how he comes up with such amazing novels and real life people. I would of course have a huge traditional thanksgiving feast with the house full of family, friends and people who like to laugh, talk, eat and have a good time. As for his writing, I like his style and I enjoy the fact that he is able to sell his characters to his readers. I think he’s brilliant and he is a man who is not afraid to share his gifts, talents and keys to success with others. Keep doing what you’re doing Carl.
I love me some Carl Weber, but sad to say that The Peacher’s Son was the last book I have read of his. There is so many great authors out there I just can’t read them all. He is a brilliant author and down to earth person that breathe life into a great book. Keep it coming Carl.
I LOVE CARL WEBER’S ABILITY TO TELL A STORY TO THE POINT THAT THE READER CAN ACTUAL VISUAL THE CHARACTERS HE’S DESCRIBING IN THE SITUATIONS HE’S SUGGESTING. I LOVED “LOOKING FOR LUV”,MARRIED
MEN”, “FIRST LADY” AND “SO YOU CALL YOURSELF A MAN”. I SEE WHY CARL HAS BEEN A NEW YORK TIMES
BEST SELLING AUTHOR SO MANY TIMES. HE KNOWS THE DEAL AND NOT AFRAID TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS WAS AND SHALL BE. I CAN COUNT ON CARL FOR A GOOD LAUGH, A CONSTANT PAGE TURNER AND SOME GREAT DRAMA!!!
I RECOMMEND HIS BOOKS, HIS BOOK STORE IN THE PAST WHEN IT WAS IN GERTZ MALL IN JAMAICA,QUEENS,NEW YORK AND HIS SEMINARS LIKE THIS YEAR AT THE NATIONAL BOOK CLUB CONFERENCE THIS SUMMER IN ATLANTA,GEORGIA. MAN, YOU CAN COUNT ON CARL TO TELL IT, W ITH A POUND OF DRAMA.I’D LIKE TO NO MORE ABOUT CHARACTERS FROM HIS BOOK ,”SOMETHING ON THE SIDE.”
CORRECTION- LINE ONE THE WORD IS “VISUALIZE”
