The Heart of Him, Iris Bolling’s sophomore novel, picks up where her last novel ended. The first time Ashley Harrison saw James Brooks, she knew that he was the man she was destined to spend the rest of her life with. He was tall, handsome, smart and funny. He was also ten years older with a very guarded past. James agreed to be the campaign manager for Ashley’s brother, JD Harrison. James admitted that there was something that attracted him to Ashley and he simply could not stay away from her. But making her a part of his life meant that he had to make amends with his past. As their relationship grew, secrets from their past began to surface and threatened their relationship. It was also a threat to JD’s campaign and political future.
Bolling’s story was very intriguing and fun to read. She was able to introduce two characters that were likeable and realistic. I also enjoyed the campaign strategies as James prepared to run for office, very much reminiscent of this year’s presidential campaign. Bolling answered questions from her first book and left room for additional stories. Fans of Bolling will enjoy this one as much as her first book.
