In Janice N Adams’ A Heart’s Journey, Cierra Sykes struggles to understand love, family, and friends. The story begins with Cierra going to her best friend’s wedding. We then go back to her last year in college and the rollercoaster ride with her first love, Christopher Jackson. Cierra and Chris have been together since their freshman year. She loves him and is so sure that they will be married. As fate would allow, a turn of events takes them down very different paths. Cierra is fed up and Chris cannot understand why she would throw all of their dreams away. Cierra is dealing with an abusive father and a mother who cannot seem to see her father’s dogmatic ways. She just will not put up with disappointment from Chris.

Adams uses an open dialogue with Cierra and God. It is so intense, when you are able to hear someone else’s prayers…the good, the bad, and the ugly. Very refreshing story, with very real characters. I cannot wait to see what will happen with Cierra in Adam’s next installment.
