TGIF!

APOOO wants to know what’s everyone doing this weekend?
Anyone planning to attend the National Book Club Conference in Atlanta this weekend?
Any author appearances or literary events going on in your neck of the woods?

What books do you plan to read this weekend?
What other plans do you have for this weekend?
Anyone starting a vacation?

Or are you doing a Staycation?
Anyone celebrating a birthday?

Having a baby or trying to?

Anyone planning to attend a wedding?
Any family reunions happening?
Anyone going to the movies?
Did you know that the Titantic is the largest grossing movie of all-time with sales of over $600 million? Guess what, the Dark Knight is projected to beat that figure and set a new record. Hmmm…Dark Knight hasn’t even grossed $400million yet…so I think the jury is premature on this one.
Celebrating any other occasion?
And what’s wrong with this picture–
Simon and Shuster just reported a loss for the first half of 2008:
For the first half of 2008, profits were down 26%, to $29.2 million, on a 10% drop in sales to $387.6 million. SOURCE
However, Exxon just ANNOUNCED RECORD PROFITS!
“ExxonMobil’s second quarter earnings excluding special items were a record $11,970 million, up 17% from the second quarter of 2007. SOURCE

Hey sis…I will pray for you…11 that’s the beginning of the end with girls…I don’t think they get their brains back until they’re around 17…lol. I think APOOO reviewed In Too Deep…if so we have a review posted at amazon.com.
What’s up Apooo!!
This weekend will be kinda weird for me…I will be around kids From Friday Afternoon til Sunday Night. My Little sister is turning 11 and I am her B-day Party Hostess….and guess what it’s a sleep over, So I will be painting toes, eating popcorn and hearing about Chris Brown for a very long time. Although I did go to the Library Tuesday so I have many books to pick from..I think one is called “In too Deep” by Dwayne S.Joseph from Urban bBooks. I will keep you posted on how it goes;) Pray for a sista LOL.
You would think since the conference is here in the ATL I would be attending. Nope not me. I’m too busy celebrating my children returning to school. Hip Hip Hooray! I know I’m wrong for that, but it’s been a long summer.
I’m reading two books at the moment. Trading Dreams at Midnight by Diane McKinney Whetstone and When I’m With You by LaConnie Taylor-Jones. Each book offer something different.
I can’t wait to discuss TDAM. I guess it really doesn’t matter what publishing house puts out your book; whether big or small there will be some errors. I just think it’s too many in the first 50 pages. I still like the book though.
WIWY has a woman who over-reacts. Someone needs to throw some cold water on her to calm her down.
My husband and I went to a movie with our three kids a few weeks back, and no I can’t remember what we saw because the price of the tickets are still shocking to me. Did he tell me he spent $32 for four of us? That’s without popcorn (a small bag is $5.95, no drink included) or a drink.
It will be a while before we do another movie. I remember what we saw. It was Hancock. Thank goodness we all liked it.
I called my local Borders to see if they had Going Down South by Bonnie Glover, they told me they didn’t have it in stock. I’m still scratching my head about that one. Do you ever have anything I want? Why do I always have to order the books I want. I guess I need to read more Urban and Erotica. I do like other things though.
Aside from making sure my kids is ready for their first full week of school, I will be reading and writing.
I will not be attending the NBCC this year–my money is just not long enough…sigh… I will, however, have a power lunch with two dynamic sister poets and aspiring authors today. They consider me an expert, lol!! I am attending a youth summit in Delaware on Saturday, and a book release party in Philly that same evening. So, I think my dance card is pretty full. Going to go to the gym this morning…I hope
Jennifer–glad you enjoyed Hancock. LOL. Glad the kids are headed back to school…yay for you.
Julia–Have fun at your power lunch today!
I too am a ATLANTA girl and am not going to the conference because my money was not long enough either Julia….But I am reading a few books that I have been procrastinating on – Well actually two books “The Measure of a Man” which is our BOM in my book club and I am also going to start on Them by Nathan McCall….I am a HUGE Erotica lover but my members keep telling me that I have to “Broaden My Mind” so I am really, really, really trying (LOL) I love what you offer Yasmin because without it I would only read the same genre of books all of the time…I feel so guilty though because when all of the other ladies on here are talking about different authors I am LOST because I am stuck on Zane, Noire, etc….. But I am going to get better (I promise)
Zephanie–LOL with you and sis reading should be enjoyable and relaxing…okay and every now and then enlightening…hmmm and I’ve learned something from Zane and Noire…lol.
My Birthday is Sunday, August 3rd! So I will be celebrating all of August
PA–Happy b-day sis and many more! What do you plan to do on your special day.
xoxo
Currently I am in Evanston Illinois with my family reconnecting with former black residents of this town who are originally from the South (Abbeville, South Carolina and many other places). Most of these individuals are in their mid 60s and older so I am definitely having a history lesson. Maybe I will see a movie if possible but this time is loving and appreciating my ancestors.
BIG HUGS sis!
TheJennTaFur’s last blog post..Business Daily Africa – the international window into East African business opportunities – Ajumas
JennTaFur–Hang out with the elders…as my grandmother said they’re going we’re coming…but they are a wealth of knowledge so get all you can get from them.
xoxo
Hey Lisa thanks for the randomness…I love it…and maybe we need to plan to be in ATL for next year’s NBCC! I need to talk to Meta…APOOO wants a copy of her latest book for review.
just random responses as usual…
saw the exxon story while chatting with one of the photojournalists at the paper and he was like I just put 75 effin’ dollars in the tank this morning!!! yesterday I went to the nearest and cheapest BP to fill up and had to wait in line because it was $3.76 for regular!!! And there was a severe storm in progress but none of us was moving from our spaces, lol! Was afraid the price was a dream if we blinked!
Doing a staycation…gotta work tomorrow and stay cool, upper 80s but the humidity will be near 100!
I met author Meta Smith(The Rolexx Club; Queen of Miami, Heaven’s Fury) last weekend for the first time – she lives in Gary and she called me last night about Simon and Schuester(Heaven’s Fury and Whip Appeal coming Aug. 19), which she has a contract with…it is just crazy everywhere with industries and jobs.
Wish I could go to Atlanta this weekend…my brother would never see me for going to this conference, lol!
“Dark Knight” was AMAZING…it may break the record with the latest Mummy film coming in second for its first weekend(plan to see that too…I just love movies with these types of special effects and scenery…the Mummy movie was actually filmed in China).
Onika –LOL about taking hotdogs to the movies…and sis enjoy your week of being ‘single without child.’
this weekend I plan to take my car to the carwash..sad so sad to say I haven’t washed it in months. My niece’s school is having a fundraiser, so I’m going to support and have them wash my car lol. Sunday I’m going to entertain some kids at a 4 year old’s birthday party and later that evening bid my son bon voyage for his yearly summer trip to Jamaica with his dad. So i’m free for another week.
lmao @ JC’s jaw dropping experience at the movies…Thats why I bring my own damn hotdogs lol
I’m also in Atlanta but not attending the conference…the downtown connector (major hwy is undergoing construction on the weekend and I would have to take back roads to get there…no thanks)
If APOOO decides to get together next year and attend…let me know and I’ll plan for it…
Tonight I’m playing it by ear…got ‘Four’ Invites but don’t know if I feel like going anywhere (LOL)
It’s Tax Free weekend here…so I got up very early and went shopping for the last few school supplies I needed for the little one and brought two more pair of pants (they wearing uniforms this year…glad I brought most of his uniforms early as they went up on prices)
Tomorrow (Sunday) I will spend the day with my Best Friend…she travels for work so we try to get together every two weeks and reconnect…I cleaned off my book shelf and will be taking books to her (also noticed that I have quite a few autographed books now…those I don’t share…I’ll buy someone else a copy 1st before sharing) probably dinner/wine…maybe a concert (if we leave the house) some of my artist friends (musicans/poets) are having a jam session.
Speaking of which…I’m doing a list of books as that’s what I’m giving for holidays/birthdays this year!
My bookclub is reading Trading Dreams at Midnight by Diane McKinney Whetstone and I pray I can get through it(our meeting is next Sat)…as I just read there are typo’s…I never finished Thieve’s Paradise by EJD for that exact reason….gave the book away…LOL
I read Seen It All And Done The Rest by Pearl Cleage and enjoyed it (because I live in Atlanta I can picture the neighborhoods in her books and love that past characters pop up from time to time…like a family reunion)
Hey SL have fun with your girlfriend this weekend and I’m going to NBCC next year…so please stay in touch and I will do the same.
