In My Hood 3 by Endy is not your average street-literature read. In the third installment of In My Hood, we are introduced to Valencia aka “Black Widow.” Valencia is the daughter to a well-known mob boss and is out to seek revenge for the murders of her brother and sister that still plague her from her early childhood. This story takes place in Newark, New Jersey where we witness street gangs, drug buys and murder on a rampage. Nyeem is the son to the infamous Ishmael, and while Nyeem is a good student and aspiring basketball player no one understands why he has not stepped into his father’s footsteps. Going against the grain Nyeem wants to get out of the hood and have a normal life and play ball, but when the guns start blazing and he loses one of his best friends right before his eyes he takes a different approach.
In My Hood 3 is filled with murder and deception, family members battling each other, rival gangs and a multitude of gun fights. The action never ends in this fast-paced read. As I read I wondered what would happen next and would the Black Widow get her revenge. Black Widow is a one-woman arsenal and her techniques are flawless, precise and angers many men once they find out they are sparring with a woman. Can Valencia complete her father’s dying wish before his demise? Will Nyeem find out the true meaning of family? While he is surrounded by fast money, fast women and cars can he hold his perspective and stay focused on completing school and leaving the hood?
In My Hood 3 is a great read and had me running along side the gun battles, ducking for cover and wanting more. Black Widow was a great addition to this third installment and I look forward to reading more from Endy. I recommend this book to readers of all genres. I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover-to-cover.
