There are times when I really, really, really, really Love America. LOL.
It’s a great country when it comes to everyone being able to have their say. I remember childhood days, especially during the summer, when some kids would get bored and would begin ‘playing the dozens’ or coming up with yo’ momma’ jokes. Not much changes when we become adults, the way we say it might, but as long as we have freedom of speech in American everyone believes it is there G-d given right to say whatever to whomever. And, it hasn’t been any different at the DNC.
For the most part, I’ve heard some very inspiring and motivating speeches from Ted Kennedy, Michelle Obama, and Hillary Clinton that assure me that anything is possible with the Democratic Party; yes, we can all get on one accord. I almost feel like a Kumbaya moment. LOL. And then there’s individuals, like the Hillary supporter featured in the video below, who happens to be black. Yawn. Big ups to girlfriend for showing that all blacks do not think the same, act the same, just because we all share the same skin color.
A lot is going to happen between now and November and some of it is going to be disconcerting. But, you know what, it ain’t my battle, especially when it comes to the actions of other folks. I can’t control what folks say, feel or even how they vote. But, I can choose to focus on what is POSITIVE and that’s what I’m going to strive to do over the next two months. I will continue to go canvass for Obama, as if he does not win, it will not be because I didn’t do all I could to help him get there.
In the meantime, I’m going to watch former President Bill Clinton on the DNC today and I’m going to listen to John Legend’s If You’re Out There and Superwoman by Alicia Keys. Speaking of Alicia Key’s did anyone hear her Superwoman tribute to Michelle Obama? I tried to find the video on YouTube but it hasn’t been posted yet. So, in the meantime, just imagine Michelle Obama’s speech superimposed on the version of Super Woman below.

Clapppppppppinnnnnnnnnng! So true, Sister Yas,
we are not monolithic and to each his or her own, and we will surely have some ‘crushing’ moments through this, but I think crushing is sometimes a good thing, after all wine was made from crushed grapes…I know…
Smooches!
angelia
At challenging and as painful as it has been in some instances, this election and much that surrounded it moved us further along towards accepting our own diversity. It doesn’t mean that racism is dead, and that we can all sit around the campfire singing “We Have Overcome.” We haven’t - not yet, but we’re further along than August 1963 - believe me.
Angelia–yep wine was made from crushed grapes…and I love me some wine…white zinfindel that is…hehe.
Niambi–I accept that we’re further along than we were in August 1963 when many of us still couldn’t vote…
You have spoken the truth, Yas! I wish you had posted this last night right after girlfriend had her say and right before I rolled my eyes and had to back away from the tv. Maybe I wouldn’t have rolled and backed so hard.
Donielle, rotflmao…girlfriend did take some folks there…but we can’t let her make us take our eyes off the bigger objective/task here.
I have never been this excited over an election! I am so proud to be an American, and it’s been a while since I have declared it! We may have not yet overcome, but I’d say we’re standing on the mountain top.
Obama 08
Tom Joyner and Jay Anthony Brown are trying to find out more about that woman in the video. They put an A.P.B. on her announcing if anyone who works with her, goes to the boat with her, the shrimp house, etc. to call them so they can ask where the hell she come from, lol!
I love John Legend’s song, I start crying everytime I hear it because it is bone chilling inspiring!
I was moved by Michelle’s and “Uncle Teddy” speeches. Hilary’s gave me chuckles with her jabs at Republicans. I missed most of Bill’s speech because I messed up on the time he was coming on and got so mad about missing that, I ended up missing Biden’s acceptance speech…but caught Barack Obama standing onstage with that mega watt grin - I LOVE IT!
You can best believe I will be in front of the television tonight to hear Barack and have plenty of tissue besides me. When he spoke in 2004 at the convention I was in stunned awe and when I snapped out of it, I screamed, WHO THE HELL IS HE??! HE’S FANTASTIC!!!
I know who he is now and can’t wait to hear his words on the 45th anniversary of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s I Have a Dream speech.
Julia–I like that standing on the mountaintop.
Lisa–Tom and company are crazy…but hmmm let me know if they find her. Hehe.
