1189018_flame_3Summer is just around the corner.  Cook outs, vacations, trips to the beach, cooling off in a darkened theater.  Having fun and hanging with your peeps is the name of the game.  At least, that’s the case for most of us.

Not me.

Right now, I am on fire with new business ideas.  I’m also about to make a huge move in my relationship (literally and figuratively), and I’m transitioning into a new phase in parenting.

More about the business when I’m ready to launch.

The Man and I are moving in together in a couple of weeks.  This is HUGE for me.  Not only am I sharing my life with him, but we will also be sharing our living space on a permanent basis.  I’m sure there will be some minor adjustments, but I am really looking forward to it.  It has been a very long time since I lived with another adult.

As for parenting, The Girl will start high school this fall, and her father and I agreed a few years ago that she would live with him for high school.  It was a hard decision, but I really think it’s a good one- mainly because I feel that girls need their dad’s influence the most when they start dating.  The Ex will be able to give The Girl insight into the male adolescent psyche way better than I ever could.  I didn’t get them when I was an adolescent myself, and I sure as hell don’t get them now.

You would think that I would be pulling out my hair right about now, with all of the changes ahead of me.  I’m actually excited about the future and energized by the changes. I’m taking risks as an entrepreneur, a girlfriend, and a mother.

And a good time will be had by all (or else).

What do you have going on this summer?

  1. This summer I’m going to still be in school, so no traveling for me. But my kids will get on the plane with my husband on Wednesday. He is dropping them off for their summer vacation with their grandparents, cousins and other family members. I think it’s important for kids to get a break from their parents and vice versa.

Them being gone will give me an opportunity to finish writing a story I’ve been writing since last July. I going to try something new for me; which is use a voice recorder to get the story out of my head and then type it all up.

I am also creating a lot more handmade jewelry and I want to try making some hair accessories for natural hair.

I’m still trying to get to my local book club meetings, meeting authors and their readings and signings. And the one major this summer is my 10th wedding anniversary. We’re not sure how we are celebrating. Otherwise, my summer will be peaceful and uneventful.

  2. This summer I have one primary goal…to work out more/eat better and get in shape and to drag my daughter kicking and screaming with me. Also will be touring colleges with son…and dreaming about taking a trip to an exotic island. Hmmm maybe I should start planning to do one next summer with me and some of my girls.

  3. PS It’s so kewl that the ex is involved in your daughter’s life and that she will get to spend her HS years with him…and sis you are definitely the energizer bunny these days!
    xoxo

  4. We will take a family vacation, and hopefully take in a lot of the local fun. Today was the last day of school for my kids, so little do they know, I am conjuring up some projects for them. And, I may even take horseback riding lessons with my daughter since grandpa just bought her a horse and a second one the to share with the rest of us.

  5. I think the highlight of my summer will be attending The Faith and Fiction Retreat in Orlando with my favorite authors. I love the book club discussions and pajama parties.

  6. Djuanna congratulations on all of the moves you’re making this year.

As it stands, my family and I are still trying to decide what we’re going to do for the summer. Mainly, I’m looking forward to the time we get to all spend together. Nothing like a BBQ to bring us all together.

  7. Hey Ladies,
Sounds like the summer is going to be busy for us all. Don’t worry, I’ll still be over here at APOOO mixing things up. And Yas, you go girl! I’ll definitely cheer you on while getting back on the exercise bandwagon myself. And when you start making those vacation plans with the girls, please add me to the list. :-)

@JC- write girl, but don’t forget to sit with your favorite drink and enjoy the silence for a few.

@Pam- have fun with the horses. At least you don’t have to keep them. LOL

@Rhonda- book clubs and pajama parties! Now that sounds like a plan.

@Nardsbaby- call me! I always bring desserts. lol

  8. I plan to go to a family reunion in July, a conference and join a serious writing critique group. The other three writers have publisher or about to publish and I feel honored to be in their company. I also am going through the process of uncluttering my life on all levels.
