Happy last Thursday in August. APOOO thanks everyone who followed the Hot Fun in the Summertime feature this month. As the month comes to a close, APOOO asked our resident urban fiction queen advisor, Darnetta Frazier, to recommend some of her all-time favorite urban/street fiction books. Darnetta’s list is provided below, please feel free to check it out and comment on–which books you like, which books you would like to read and other books that you think Darnetta should check out. Come on, don’t be shy, leave us a comment and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible. And, everyone who leaves a comment will be entered into a drawring to win a FREE book. Angelia, hang with Darnetta and she have you reading a few more of them.
Hey Angelia!
Dare by Abiola Abrams and Reasonable Doubt by Mark Anthony are right up your alley. I think you’ll enjoy them. Both have female main characters who are going through IT.
I have debated back and forth about Dare, so I am going to get it…

GOOD! Must advise, not your typical shoot em up bang bang, but VERY good, IMO.

Hey Gwyneth!
A Street Girl Named Desire was something else, wasn’t it? There is one part in that book that stills has me like ‘for real?’ LOL
Oh and C-Murder is really going to shock you. That book was excellently written. SO not what I expected from a rapper. Especially with the disappointment in 50 Cents label

Gwyneth–WOW–you are definitely a well-versed reader!
Oops, I’ve only read two on the list…The Take Down by Mark Anthony and
The Coldest Winter Every by Sister Souljah.
So C-Murder’s book is good? Wow, that’s a shock. Might have to pick that up. Now I just have to find more reading time…
Hey Joan!
Yeah, I was shocked too. But it was really, really good. Very pleasant surprise. And I know how you feel about the reading time.

Darnetta ~ Yes A Street Girl Named Desire was something else indeed. There were several parts of the books that had me like “for real?” I’m glad the author did a twist with the HIV situation. I just did not want ole girl to have to go out like that… It was a really good read. I can’t wait to have time for another reading spree. I have so many books stacked up and waiting to be read. If I could stop buying new ones, I might be able to read the ones I have. LOL.
