Hot Fun in the Summertime–3 Favorite Summertime Tunes

Hello APOOO friends and family!
The weather is absolutely gorgeous here in Central PA. It’s August but the temps are in the 70s with low humidity; it feels more like an autumn day. So much so, that I’ve had a hard time focusing on this month’s Hot Fun in the Summertime theme today. LOL. And, I’m sort of behind with getting authors on board for this month’s theme, not because they’re not available but it’s been mad crazy on the plantation and I just haven’t had time to coordinate schedules…but I hope to be back in the saddle by next week.
In the meantime, to stay on track, today’s blog is about music…but not just any music…it’s songs related to summertime or that came out during the summer months. Here’s videos for three of my favorites and yes all of them include SUMMER in the title (and yes I did a similar blog last summer…and if it’s good you get a re-do…hehe).
Summertime by Fresh Prince and Jazzy Jeff–This one has fond memories for me because it came out the summer that my husband and I first started dating 17 years ago…and hubby played this summer everyday (sometimes all day…lol).
Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers–Back in the Day this was the summertime jam! Summer breeze makes me feel fine blowing through the Jasmine in my mind…and of course since I was Yasmin you know I played up that jasmine in my mind with many a brother…what…most folks still confuse Jasmin with Yasmin…hehe. Oh and this song came out summer of 1974…another first…summer of my first boyfriend! 
And he definitely had Yasmin on his mind in more ways than one…lol.
Summer Madness by Kool and the Gang–summer of 1974 was HOT as this song also debuted that summer…and while it didn’t get as much play from me as Summer Breeze…it still got a lot of airtime!
BONUS: A Tribute to the This Month’s Theme–Hot Fun in the Summertime by Sly and the Family Stone
And for those who are real Ole School…let me take you way on back with Dancin’ in the Streets by Martha and the Vandellas. When this came out in 1964, I was only 6 years old but I remember doing the Jerk to this song with my aunts and older siblings…and we were dancing in the street in the Big Easy…N’awlins…hehe.

“Hot Fun in the Summertime” “Summertime” “Summer Breeze” Summer Madness(both the Kool and the Gang and Jerald Daymeon versions(his violin talent is awesome!). “Hot Child in the City” “Summer in the City” “In the Summertime”(I just thought the lyrics were funny but the beat was catchy, lol)
“Living for the City” “Jamaica Funk” “Girls…I Like the Girls” and some chick did an updated version of this song, switching it to “I Like the Boys” Don’t know who she is but I heard it on one station here everyday and I loved it!
Okay I’ve got to go and find I LIKE THE BOYS and oh yeah Living for the City, Jamaica Funk…hmmm need to go and pull out my albums…hehe.
I love Kool and the Gang’s “Summer Madness” and I also love Will Smith’s “Summertime” which sample the song.

On “I Like The Boys” it sounds like a cameo from Missy Elliott is part of it. whomever the chick is singing it and using the same track as the original with additional bass to it…I was always hearing it on Soul 106.3 in Chicago/Hammond. But I always missed who made it.
Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers IS the all time summer jam. You could count of the Isley Brothers putting out a hit every summer. I love me some Summer Breeze makes me feel fine, Blowing through the jasmine of my mind!!
Summertime…. Is my jam! And Philly is my home town.

Too many for me to name but i love Martha and the Vandellas. I’m old school all the way though, so ya know.
