The Hunts by Natasha Usher

The Hunts by Natasha Usher portrays the modern day Bebe’s Kids. There are five Hunt children. The oldest and only girl is Victoria. She was named after her mom’s favorite soap opera star, Victoria Rowell. The four boys are Luther (of course named after Luther Vandross), DougRoss (named after George Clooney’s character on ER), Tyger (named after Tiger Woods), and Tyler (you guessed it…named after Tyler Perry).

They are ages seven to 13; which means they have been terrorizing Acon, Georgia for the last 13 years. Their parents just up and left them alone. And, now the teachers, judges, and sheriff are left to deal with them. Luther, who has a love for basketball, decides that he must make it to Atlanta for the Hawks vs Celtics playoffs. Who knows when the Hawks will be in the playoffs again? The sheriff decides that Acon needs a break from the Hunts and sends them off to the big city.

Usher brilliantly describes the city of Atlanta. The mayhem that occurs with the Hunts is down right hilarious. The Hunts is easy to understand and enjoyable to read. I think young adults will enjoy this book. I will be recommending this book to some of the girls that I mentor.
