Ms. Ondrea L. Davis has penned a winner her first time out the door with How Could My Husband Be Gay. Sad to say that it had to be an autobiographical account, however, this tale is heart-felt, disturbing, and mildly amusing as it mirrored what I personally went through a few years ago. I read this story with the intent to see if I could have prevented something or how I could have possibly missed the signs.
Meet Ondrea, a wonderful young, shy woman who believes in God and family. Ondrea is a hardworking mother, dedicated to her church and family. Her husband, Marceous, is a momma’s boy, arrogant and selfish to boot. The characters are lively, vivacious, and quite colorful to say the least. How Could My Husband Be Gay will have you laughing, crying, cheering and hoping for the best. As I read this work of art; I found myself anticipating what was going to happen next, screaming at the pages, exclaiming ‘girl watch your back,’ and looking around to see if Ms. Davis was in my house and I did not see her. Marceous was verbally abusive, and downright conniving at times, leaving readers wondering what had gone wrong in his childhood and does he really love women or is he using them as a cover-up.
The church plays a big part in Ms. Davis keeping her faith through this trying time, along with trying to keep her marriage intact. With Marceous’ nosey, overbearing family and his sneaky ways, Ondrea did not know what hit her. I asked the question could someone be that naive that they can overlook something, which appears to be so blatant? Do you stay or leave for the sake of the children? Can you salvage a marriage gone astray and maintain your sanity?
I would like to thank Ms. Davis for opening her heart and life by writing this story of deception, heartbreak and misery. How Could My Husband Be Gay is relatable, realistic and emotional. I recommend this book to readers of all genres and look forward to Ms. Davis next book.
