Who is ChickLitGurrl? She is Shonell Bacon. One thing that all people have in common is the facing of life’s trials and tribulations. Black, white, Puerto Rican, Japanese, Hispanic-whatever the culture, everyone goes through the rollercoaster of life, and because of that, Shonell Bacon considers herself a ‘life writer’ — her goal is not to paint the portrait of the black experience specifically, but to paint the portrait of the ‘human’ experience within her stories so that a dialogue about our commonalities can spark and help unite an entire society.
I remember when…I have known Shonell Bacon for almost eight years. When I met her she was barely out of her teens, we called her Shonie, and now she is all grown up, an English Professor in Louisiana and goes by Shon. LOL. I feel like she’s one of my own kids who has come into her own. I marvel at much she has accomplished in such a short time and am amazed at what she continues to achieve.
Because Shon is so unassuming and a quiet spirit (but not a pushover), folks might tend to sleep on her, rather than see the gem that’s starring them in the face. I still cannot believe that she’s not a full-time author…because she is an EXCELLENT WRITER AND A WONDERFUL STORYTELLER…and although she has a day job…those closest to her know what her first love is.
When she’s not busy writing novels, short stories; teaching college students; running a Web site and a blog or two; she can be found helping others via her editing services. APOOO is happy to feature Shon Bacon in today’s spotlight and we ask you to check out her books as well as her services. You will not be disappointed.

Yes, I have to agree with all that was said above and things that weren’t.
I correspond with Shon, just about every day. And here recently I asked her so you always find good even when there’s none. And she told me yes she does.
I love it and I have grown to love her as well. My first completed manuscript was due to her Boot Camp. It was so on point. It was because of her boot camp that I realized I was more of a plotter than a pantser.
I will definitely stay close to her, because she is wise and I can learn a lot from just listening to the things she share.
Hats off to you Shon.
Great spotlight on my sista of the south!
Shon is a wonderful spirit, editor, and friend. She SOOO deserves to be on literary top 5 lists.
Keep pushing!

Hey Stepford,
It brings a smile to my face to see you perched on the list. Keep writing what you are writing and stay the focused person you are. Much love and much success.
Wonderful !!!!
Okay, aNN - I laughed TRULY aloud, LOL. Do you know how long it’s been since I’ve been called Stepford????
JC - I also think I told you that that “seeing good” was an obsession. Sometimes, I really do try to run away from it! (And yes, Darnetta, I used an exclamation mark, LOL)
