Ladies, Please Cover Up by Rambling Raven
There are so many things to love about the summer. I love the warmth of the sun upon my face. I love the smell of fresh cut grass. I love the beautiful flowers and the sight of the mighty green trees. And I certainly love the sight, smell and taste of all the colorful summer fruit.
However there are some aspects of summer I can do without. I can do without the surge in violence that plague our city streets during the summer months. I can do without all the construction sites that pop up, causing traffic jams and timely detours. Above all else I can do without all the half naked, tacky looking people parading around.
Okay, I get it. It is hot and we want to wear light clothing, exposing our arms and legs. After all, we want to try to remain as cool as possible in all the heat. However, a few of us can go a little too far with exposing things. For example, is it necessary to wear shorts that not only appear to cut off your circulation but are so short that you reveal the discolored part of your butt?
I may be alone here but I wish people would wear size appropriate clothing. Just because something is made in your size doesn’t mean you have to buy it off the rack. If you put on a pair of shorts and they reveal all the cellulite in your thighs, perhaps that is not the appropriate pair of shorts for you. The same can be said for tops as well. I am sick and tired of seeing women with bellies that hang over the top of their pants wearing blouses that bare their midriffs. And remember, bellies marred by stretch marks aren’t cute either.
Yes, I am being a bit catty but when you see women who wear leggings as pants, it brings out the critical bitchy-ness in you. Speaking of the leggings, I must say that I don’t get this recent summer trend. Since when did a thin pair of leggings, ones that were meant to be worn underneath clothing, become something to wear alone? Of course you can see everything, right down to the designs on the panties. Sadly, this trend has become popular with women of all shapes and sizes. Another trend is wearing bikini wear as regular clothing. Honestly, if you are not on a beach you really shouldn’t walk around with a string bikini top and a pair of jeans, too much exposure. It is sexier to leave something to the imagination than it is to let it all hang up.
Look all I am saying is that we all know that it is hot outside. We all want some relief from the warm temperature, yet we don’t have to become skanky to do so. Summer is a time to shed the heavy clothing of winter. Do we have to shed all since of style and class with it as well?

Raven, I love to read your ramblings because they are so true and honest. I agree that even though it is in a store does not mean that it is meant for everyone. Some of these people take skanky to another level. For example, a female student at my husband’s school walks pass with a summer dress on that was so short, when she bent over to pick up the pen she dropped you could see the crack of everything. A male student sitting next to me says, “Thongs are not for eveyone. She is to big for that.” Another thing I hate to see is people wearing pajamas. I just recently spoke to a young female that came to school wearing a see through pajama top and shorts. Of course the shorts hit right at the bottom of her butt. Who told these people that wearing pajama’s outside their home was proper attire? Needless to say I am with you when you are right. So, ramble on Raven, ramble on.
I haven’t seen the bikini look yet
I feel ya Raven.
I so agree with you. In the summer time especially there is a “less is better” group and it crosses the board in body types and shapes. They all need to put some clothes on
GURL…you aint NEVA lied…LOL
This sounds like my trip to walmart last night. I saw a lady with some cut offs on that was doing a lot of cutting off. All I could think about was the chaffing she must have. Slim or curvy there are so many ills out there….why wear a dress you must continue to pull down as you walk. crazy crazy….bellys hanging out from under your shirt indicates you need a bigger shirt. one size does not ALWAYS fit all…look in a mirror and get some friends who will tell you that is not cute.
Great blog!
I am still laughing … just because its summer time it doesn’t give anyone a license to bare all. Today there was an article in the morning paper about how the younger generation dress for work – belly shirts, or shirts too short, flip flops, cleavage baring tops, unkempt hair, unsahven and more. Geesh!!
Great Blog!!
