I go all the way back to the Apollo Theater with Patti LaBelle and The BlueBells so you just know It’s Patti all the way for me. Fantasia does remind me of Dinah Washington when she sings a smoothe ballad.

Yeah Ms. Patti has definitely been known to be a screamer and shut out Divas down…can I say Diana Ross…hehe.

LOL – I thought I was the only one who HATED that Baby Mama song! Glad I’m not alone!

Re: the screaming…well, in some respects (1) it could have been an emulation of Ms. Patti herself, cause I’ve known sister to scream into a microphone herself on more than one occasion and (2) a bit of “ego” — with all those divas, wanna-be-divas, and powerhouses in front of a recording camera and a spotlight, there was bound to be some “competition” amongst them. Unfortunately, louder doesn’t equate to better…

In the beginning I had mixed feelings about Fantasia. Actually, I didn’t like her. Then I saw her movie and I had a change of heart. She is a decent actress, a very good singer, but terrible at hollering/screaming a song. But see, I’m old school as well and a LaBelle fan from 1965 and such (they were Patti LaBelle and the Bluebells back then) There are some voices and talent that simply cannot be duplicated.

Dinah…I agree Fantasia has a good voice…and she stick with the voice that helped her to win AI…I liked her then…but the screaming of late has really turned me off.

Rhonda…I hear you about the Baby Mama song.

Ms. Mary…yep I can understand turning the TV off.

imo no one can sing ms.patti songs the way she does but fantasia can be a good singer if she focus more on singing instead of the all the hollering she has been doing and find out what works for her voice

Cilla…U know…I thought the same thing Fantasia SCREAMED, SCREAMED…if she keeps screaming her songs her voice is going to be shot before she’s 30.
