LARCENY OF THE HEART by Maxwell Penn is a love story set in the ’70s in Jamaica. Jean Paul Baptiste is a native of Haiti but moved to Jamaica for a fresh start. Unfortunately, Jamaicans do not welcome Haitians with open arms. To make a way for himself, he uses his natural born talent as an artist to sell his wares on the streets of Jamaica. Jean does well for himself but he has to pay a monthly fee to the Constable for protection.
When Jean bumps into Winsome, he just knows it is love at first sight. Little does he know at the time that Winsome just so happens to be the Don’s (Dexter’s) girl. When an opportunity presents itself, Jean swoops in and a whirlwind romance soon ensues between the two. Dexter sees Winsome and Jean together at a local event and feels disrespected and embarrassed. Jean in turn stands up to Dexter and all hell breaks out, spiraling into a chain of events that will leave many dead and fighting for their lives.
LARCENY OF THE HEART by Maxwell Penn was a story of romance, friendships, family, murder and vengeance. Mr. Penn does an excellent job in the language that his characters speak. Mr. Penn definitley puts his own mark in the literary world and I look forward to reading more by this author.
