Prior to today, I had never heard of Lena Baker. I thank my fellow APOOO member for forwarding it and it’s good to see Tichiana Arnold stepping out and playing a serious, dramatic role. Mad props to Ralph Wilcox the writer/director/producer who decided to bring this story to life…oh the things black women have had to endure because of men…even white men! This is a movie that makes me wanna holla…but it’s a story that I’m glad is being brought to light.

The Lena Baker Story was written, directed, and produced by Ralph Wilcox. It is based on a true story and was inspired by Dr. Lela Bond Phillips’ book Lena Baker Story. The Lena Baker Story takes place in the early 1900’s through 1945 in Cuthbert, Georgia. CLICK HERE to visit the Web site to learn more about this story.

  1. I want to see it. I also want to read the story. That trailer made me feel awful. I can’t understand why that man kept going back to get her knowing it was against the law. I presume she must have killed him, and that’s why she was sentenced to death by the electric chair.

    DAMN!!

  2. Yes Jennifer she killed him and I really detest that he put her life in danger…he really had no respect for her…but then again I have to remember times were different then (and sometimes I question just how much has changed now…sigh).

  3. I never head of the story either. And will definitely see the movie. I will add the book to my ever growing TBR pile. (smile)

  4. Hmmmm, you learn something new everyday. Never heard of her or her story until today. I will go add the book to my wish list over at Amazon. Movies like this makes me so angry that I end up looking cock-eyed at certain folks for weeks. It looks powerful.

  5. Raven–it does look powerful and that cock-eyed look…oh yeah…when Roots came out I was a sistah on a mission…lol.
