LADIES OF COLOR TURNING PAGES
TAKES FIVE WITH APOOO
Location: Los Angeles, CA
When Founded: February 2001
Number of Members: 10
Name FIVE genres that your book club reads regularly. Our favorite genre is mystery. We also enjoy reading romance/relationship novels, historical fiction and sci-fi.
Name FIVE authors whose books your book club enjoys reading together. We especially enjoy reading the works of Nichelle Tramble, Gary Phillips, Marissa Monteilh, Victor McGlothin and Walter Mosley.
List the FOUR BEST books that your book club has read this year. Ms. Etta’s Fast House by Victor McGlothin, Casanegra by Blair Underwood, Nappily Married by Tricia Thomas and Them by Nathan McCall.
List THREE books—the last book your club read, the current book your club is reading, the book your club plans to read next. Hell Has No Fury by Keith Lee Johnson, Murder on the Down Low by Pamela Samuels-Young, and The January Girl by Goldie Taylor.
Offer TWO tips for a successful book club meeting. There has to be a commitment to read the books and the group has to agree to not take personally differences of opinion.
If your group could have dinner with ONE author, who would be your group’s choice and why? We would love to have dinner with Walter Mosley. We would like to “walk through” his creative process. How did he develop such distinctive yet ordinary characters like Easy and Mouse? They are simple, and at the same time, complex.
GOTTA RUN…BUT BEFORE WE DEPART:
What makes your book club unique and different from any other book club?
We have stayed together for seven years in the ever-changing environment of Los Angeles.
Is your group currently accepting membership? Currently, we are not accepting new members.
How can one reach your group on the Web–N/A
Ladies of Color Turning Pages, thanks for joining APOOO and helping us kick-off Week TWO of the HEAD OF THE CLASS BOOK CLUB SPOTLIGHT. May your week and the rest of this year be filled with good intentions, positive vibes and many good reads!

Hello Ladies of Color Turning Pages and guests…wow…I’m impressed as this is the first time that one of my favorite authors stopped by APOOO and left a comment! I’m loving how this month’s book club spotlight is bringing out new guests–book club members, readers and authors alike. Bonding by books is a beautiful thing and one, of course, that APOOO strongly encourages. I hope that many of us will meet o/side of cyberspace one day…maybe at the NBCC!
Continued success to you ladies. Congratulations!

Offer TWO tips for a successful book club meeting. There has to be a commitment to read the books and the group has to agree to not take personally differences of opinion.
What I like about book clubs is the committment that we all take in reading and the difference of opinion without criticism and personal attack.
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Ladies of Color Turning Pages for opening up the cyber doors and giving us a glimpse into your book world. Book clubs make the world go ‘round. Congratulations on the success of your book club.
