Are you anal about taking care of your books or do you dog-ear them, write notes in them , mark/highlight certain passages? Do you treat your books as prized possessions or treat them any ole way because after all they are books. Just how the heck do you treat your books? It depends on the book. Sometimes you can’t even tell that the book has been read. Especially if it’s an autographed copy. HOWEVER, others are a little beat up. In some cases the books become a little of everything, a note pad, calculator as well as a calendar. Other times I’m simply writing the title of the review I’m going to use and paper is not available so I may put it in the cover. Another thing I do, when I buy a book for people I write their name and my name in it, I want to make sure that they don’t forget that I’m fueling their reading habits!!! ;)

I understand…now about using books as a note pad, calculator, calendar…gurl show some respect…hehe.

  6. Shoot it’s hard. I have two little ones and I’m always on the go and sometimes all I have is a book!!! BUT I am getting better with it. I’ve been using receipts and napkins now.

  9. Hello Sophiscated Souls Book Club,

Nice to meet you ladies, love the picture. Continued success on your endeavors.

And to answer the discussion question. I am very anal about my books, I don’t like them to look any ole kinda of way. I prefer hardbooks but I know some books don’t come in hardbacks, when I purchase hardbacks I will take the cover off while reading so it wouldn’t get messed up. I also place my name in all my books. If I loan my books out and they come back looking rough and raggly, I will charge for a brand new book and I won’t let them borrow again. And if it happens to be an autography copy, I don’t let those them the house. All the books I accumulate I keep, I’m trying to build a library.

  25. Congratulations Ladies!

Tamera and I are best friends so I’ve had the pleasure of meeting some of you. Very nice group of ladies I must say! Love the picture you’ll look great!

  26. Hey Sophiscated Souls Bookclub. Nice picture. It good to see another bookclub.

    to answer the discussion question.

I am not anal about my books, unless they are one of my Brenda Jacksons, Pearl Cleage, or Beverly Jenkins books. I must admit I do dog ear my pages, though I have tons of bookmars, I just forgot to use them. Since I am usually reading while eating luch, I try not to make a mess, but have been known to spill something on them. I never write in or highlight in my books.

Our club has a book police. She will get on us when she sees us dogearing our pages or mishandling a book. She can read a paperback and never make a crease in the spine.

What I am anal about is other people borrowing my books. No matter what shape they are , it is a no-no. I let very few people borrow my books and when they do, I usually hound them until they give them back.

  27. I am pretty anal about my books, they always look new, I will purchase a book for someone before I allow them to read a favorite and usually I give and never loan. I have a stamp with,
Library of Angelia Menchan on it…

  28. i too am a member of the Sophisticated Ladies of Soul Book club. We are a sincere group of ladies who love to read, fellowship, and get in our community hours. Thank you all for your comments.

  29. My big sister Sonja is in this book club. She shares her books with me after you all have read them. She is always talking about the book club meetings. If I lived in your city I would want to be a member.

    Go SIS!

  30. What’s up Sis!!!My sister Sonja is a member of this book club. When she was visiting me in DC, we had to get by the book so that she could get her book for the month of July. To bad you all are in Memphis. If you were in DC, I would definitely want to join.

  31. Hey Sophisticated Ladies and thanks for participating in APOOO’s Head of the Class spotlight. It’s been my pleasure to host you! Now, can someone tell me who everyone in the picture is…better yet…would each of you stop back and let me know which person is you. Thanks!

  32. Make sure everyone has the understanding that it is a book club and not social club…Just enjoy yourself.
some people get lazy and forget what brought us together in the beginning. I’ve often had to have this discussion and unfortunately, it’s even resulted to a member (cousin) leaving…LOL to start her own social club.

  33. Are you anal about taking care of your books or do you dog-ear them, write notes in them , mark/highlight certain passages? Do you treat your books as prized possessions or treat them any ole way because after all they are books. Just how the heck do you treat your books?

I am very anal about my books. I purchase all hardcover books and this can be costly so I treat them with the respect they deserve. I don’t mind lending out any of them. A requirement to borrowing any is to know up front how I feel. I have one friend that doesn’t feel the same way and she always wants to borrow my books. When I see her with them and the pages are bent that just does something to me. Makes me want to SCREAM!!!

  34. Thank you, thank you, thank you to Sophisticated Souls Book Club for opening up the cyber doors and giving us a glimpse into your book world. Book clubs make the world go ‘round. Congratulations on the success of your book club.
