What makes your book club unique and different from any other book club?
We are more than just a book club, we are a family and we treat each other with sisterly love and respect.
Is your group currently accepting membership? If so, whom should we contact? We take on membership on a case-by-case basis. We are not advertising, but if someone is interested we allow them to share with us, but it takes time to become a member. You can always reach us through Jocelyn Lawson on our MySpace page.
How can one reach your group on the Web?–Our MySpace page: www.myspace.com/sweetsoulsisters
APOOO thanks Sweet Soul Sisters Book Club for hanging out with us today and we’re looking forward to meeting them at the next National Book Club Conference (NBCC).
DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
NBCC–the National Book Club Conference, held in August in Atlanta, GA, has beeen going on for several years. Six of nine members of the Sweet Soul Sisters Book Club attended this year and they had a fantastic time. Have you attended this event, if so, share your thoughts. If you have not attended, please feel free to ask any questions you might have to help you make an informed decision about whether or not you and/or your group would like to attend. NOTE: APOOO will be in the house next year and we hope to meet many of you!

Hi Sweet Soul Sisters Bookclub
I have heard so many things about the NBCC. I am glad to hear you all had a good time. My club nor I have attended yet, but hope to do so soon. What was the best thing about the conference for you?
Passin’ was really good: I wrote a blog about it but my son asked me to stop telling people he was passing.
Even though my daughter admits when she’s with him she passes too.
Oh Well.
I think you’ll really enjoy The Pastor’s Wife. It was very funny, even if I did want to Smack That Pastor right upside his head.
I went to the NBCC this year and I had a wonderful time. This was my first time attending and I now feel that I don’t want to miss any future NBCC conferences. I enjoyed each and every session that I attended, the food was good and the authors were so down to earth.
I am glad to hear that you had a good time. I am looking forward to trying to attend next year. I have You’ve Gotta Sin to be Saved in my TBR pile. I see it made your 4 best read books of the year. I am excited to read it.

The Sweet Soul Sisters’ are more than just a book club, they are more like a family. I have known Jocelyn (Jackie) Lawson for 35 years. She is the person who turned me on to reading (Jackie used to babysit me, and I was not allowed to go outside to play. I had to read a book) It was the best thing that could have happened to me. Thanks for all you do Jackie, and the Sweet Soul Sisters.
Wow! I was just reading some of the comments and it really made me feel good. As one of the founding members of the Sweet Soul Sisters I feel truly blessed to be part of such a good group of Sisters/Friends. God has truly blessed us and I know if we continue to keep him first, he will continue to bless us. We will be celebrating our 3rd anniversary next month – time has truly been flying by. Don’t forget to visit us on our myspace page, and if you are an author or a book club in our area and we haven’t contacted you–please contact us, we would love to hear from you. P.S. The Sweet Soul Sisters will be hosting the Romance Slam Jam 2011 in Baltimore in 2011 – Hope to see you there!
Sweet Soul Sisters! What’s goin on? Thanks for all the love and support. You all have to be the most sophisticated and well-organized book club I’ve ever met. Keep up the good work and be sure to keep us authors on our toes! Thanks.
I like your name Sweet Sisters of Soul. Have you met Victoria Christopher Murray and ReShonda Tate Billingsley? I really enjoyed meeting both of them in Oakland. I will see VCM on the 26th in the Los Angeles area. Keep up the good work.

To the Ladies of The Sweet Soul Sisters, CONGRATULATIONS!!!! With flair and grace, class and a bit sass:) you ladies have embraced all writers (both upstarts like myself) and the established voices in the African-American literary community. It has been both my pleasure and honor to have been in your presence, not only at the Baltimore Book Festival, but as a special invited guest at your anniversary celebration. With an abundance of admiration, respect and gratitude, I salute all of you. Thank you for inviting me into the fold:)

I met the Sweet Soul Sisters at our bookclub’s literary event (The Woman In Me 2002 Bookclub). I am totally blessed to have met them they are the most sweetest people to be around and I love my big sister Jackie she has been such a blessing to my life. I wish them the most high and awesome blessing from GOD. Be bless and stay sweet.
Your Sister Nalo
What can I say about the Sweet Soul Sisters except that they are some of the most genuine women that I know. I met these young ladies at a time when I was unsure about my writing and they gave me the confidence to keep going. Thank you Ladies for all of your help, support, and most importantly your love. Much success.
