Author Ben Hinson writes a fictional story that addresses very real issues concerning HIV/AIDS that has reached pandemic levels in our country, and beyond. Unfortunately, for many, the seriousness of this problem falls on deaf ears and is replaced with selective ignorance.

John graduated college and looked forward to finding his first corporate job and enjoying the life and sights of the big city, especially the many women he had his choice of sleeping with on a regular basis.  Having lived in the country all his life, he could not wait to taste this new lifestyle, one that went against the Christian upbringing in his parents’ household.

Since there were no emotional ties or obligations, John fell into his dream life once he landed his corporate position, easily befriending and partaking in the party life with a few new co-workers. John’s thoughts consisted of strapping on protection and enjoying sex to the highest level possible with no consideration for the woman, or understanding the risks he was taking, or those that were placed in the lives of the women he would encounter. But, it is that one time that a good friend warned him about that could and would ultimately change John’s life and cause him to do more than evaluate who he is and to begin to put into perspective the things that pertain to life and living.

One evening an accident occurred that put John in a position to be exposed to bodily fluids, putting fear in him that he could contract HIV/AIDS or an STD. When he asked the young woman to get tested, she was indeed unknowingly HIV positive. Although John’s test was negative, he had to wait a grueling three months after this negative result, the time it takes for the disease to manifest in the body. These three months were the hardest of John’s life, as he suffered mentally, emotionally, and spiritually trying to understand how he allowed sex to rule his life to the point he never really considered how unsafe `safe’ sex can be, and the risks he was taking in order to enjoy a few hot minutes. HIV/AIDS can happen to anyone, but purposely putting yourself in a place to get it with no regard to the information and warnings available goes past ignorance to just stupidity.

Three Months by Ben Hinson shows us how even today with the knowledge we have that there are people, especially our young people, still making choices to have sex without protection, faulty protection, or just no regard for their lives as it pertains to being safe. After all this time, we are still living in a society where people really believe they cannot contract HIV/AIDS or other STDs that can ultimately put them in an early grave. I enjoyed the story that Author Hinson wove to show readers how they can put their lives at risk and how some people suffer through waiting for test results. Reference material and website information is provided and very helpful. Three Months is a book I recommend everyone read.
