My Mother’s Child Blog Tour with Dwan Abrams

Dwan Abrams is a full-time novelist, freelance editor, and publisher. She’s the best-selling author of My Mother’s Child (the sequel to Divorcing the Devil), Married Strangers, Divorcing the Devil, Only True Love Waits, and The Scream Within. She’s the founder, publisher, and editorial director of Nevaeh Publishing, LLC a small press independent publishing house. She’s currently signed to Urban Christian, an imprint of Urban Books/Kensington. Her sixth novel, the second book in the Married Series, is set to hit national bookshelves in 2011. Dwan, would you say you are an extrovert or introvert?

Depends on the occasion.  I can be outgoing and sociable when I need to be and feel quite comfortable doing so.  Most people would consider me to be extroverted, although I think I can be a bit introverted too.

Do you like to cook? If so, what are your favorite dishes to cook?

I know how to cook, but I don’t cook that often.  When I do cook, my signature dishes are lasagna and Jambalaya.

Are you a sports fan? If so, tell us about your favorite sports and/or sports team.

I’m not fanatical about sports.  However, I like basketball and this past Super Bowl. Since I live in Atlanta, I attend some of the Hawks games, but I prefer the Lakers.  As for football, I like the Cowboys and the Saints.

Are there any other hobbies you wish to share?

Every time I visit a new state, I collect a souvenir spoon.

What movie(s) have you watched recently that you would recommend?

My favorite movies are horror films. Not everyone can get into my recommendations,  so I won’t mention those.  Most recently I enjoyed The House on the Left and Avatar.

Do you like books being turned into movies? If so, what is your favorite book-to-movie?

Yes.  There have been many good ones.  Bastard Out of Carolina by Dorothy Allison comes to mind.

If My Mother’s Child was turned into a movie, who would you cast to play your characters?

Here goes… I’d cast Kerry Washington to play the lead character, Lyric Stokes, and Gary Dourdan would be perfect as her husband, Michael.

Which social networks do you enjoy the most?

Facebook hands down.  I go on the site regularly.

What’s next for you?

On the writing front, my publisher, Urban Christian, an imprint of Urban Books/Kensington, has accepted my latest book proposal.  That book is slated to be released in 2011; it’s the second book in the Married Series.  The first book was Married Strangers. The second book focuses on the newly married Shania and Greg.  I’m also releasing an ebook about publishing.

As the founder, publisher, and editorial director of Nevaeh Publishing, a small press independent  publishing house, we’ll be releasing 10 fiction and 2 non-fiction titles in 2010.  We’re currently accepting 2011 submissions.

About the Book

Lyric Stokes lives, by most standards, a charmed life. Married to Michael Stokes, a prominent heart surgeon, she has financial security and lives in the lap of luxury. All is not perfect, though. Lyric feels inadequate because she gave birth to a daughter, rather than the son that her husband so desperately wanted.

After an unexpected turn of events, Lyric discovers that she’s pregnant again, but now she has to decide whether she even wants to keep the child she has longed for. She seeks solace in her church, where her daughter also feels at home; but they can’t get Michael to join them. Disagreeing with organized religion, he has put his job before all else, including God. The distance between the couple grows further every day.

Nigel Fredericks has a history of stalking women. He’s been accused, but never convicted. Now he’s set his sights on Lyric. She’s at a low point in her life, and Nigel knows just how to take advantage of that vulnerability. Lyric’s life is turned upside down; Nigel is like a cancer eating away at her mental stability, her marriage, and ultimately, her life. Will Michael reevaluate his priorities and his faith in time to save his family?
