Welcome to APOOO Jerald!
In 140 words or less, tell us a little about you.
I’m still new to the writing industry, but I’ve been writing my entire life. I’ve only been publishing novels for almost a year now, but I have two novels out that people really enjoy. I love the art of telling a story, entertaining people, informing, and educating people. I’m an adamant advocate of breast cancer research. Half of all proceeds from the sales of my novels go towards the research and development of a cure for breast cancer when ordered from www.JERALDJHOWARD.com. I’m almost done with my third novel and I am signed with Alexander Books as my publishing company. I love their vision.
In 140 words or less, tell us why your book would make a great addition to our personal library.
“This Is What I Signed Up For” will make a great addition to your library because it’s as real as fiction can get. It’s a fast-paced, drama-filled read that you will definitely be able to relate to. The characters will draw you in so deeply that you’ll be able to feel all that they feel. Readers of all genres will be able to appreciate this novel that is told from both a female and male point of view. On top of all this, two APOOO Book Club reviewers have rated it with five out of five stars. So you know I’m on to something. Lol. You’ll love the book
What’s the main message you want readers to take away from This is What I Signed Up For?
The main message readers should take from this novel is to be careful of the things you do and say. Know that EVERY action, no matter how big or small, has a reaction. You can never know for sure how the things you do and say will affect someone else and/or yourself. We reap what we sow, and we sow what we reap. Every action has a reaction or a consequence we must keep.
Describe a day in the life of Jerald Howard.
My days are filled with marketing and writing. I get up no later than five am every morning. I pray and then I write down any thoughts I wake with or anything I dreamt that interests me. I exercise for an hour and then I get cleaned up and dressed. After breakfast, I jump on the computer to market. On a weekly basis, I offer 2-3 members of my Facebook fan page an autographed copy of one of my novels. From that point, I’m meeting with book clubs, doing radio interviews/shows, or talking with our youths. I write and eat every free moment in between. Bedtime is no later than ten.
If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be? What sort of memories does the smell evoke?
The smell of Victoria’s Secret peach blossom scented body lotion makes me nostalgic. It evokes memories of a beautiful woman just out of the tub and sprawled across my comforter. It evokes memories of passion.
Of all your favorite foods, which one would you find the most difficult to give up for the rest of your life? Why?
The one food I couldn’t give up would have to be a peach. I love the taste, the sweet juicy nectar, and the many uses (see above question). Lol. Mmm mmm mmm. I love peaches
What is one of your favorite sayings/quotes.
I have two favorite sayings. The first is, “I can show you a whole lot better than I can tell you, and I can tell you pretty damn well.” -Me
The second is, “No matter how big or small your platform, use it to tell others of God.” -Coach Tommy Bowden
Besides family members, what male has been instrumental in shaping you into the man you have become today?
Outside of the men in my family, the man who has been most instrumental in shaping me into the man I am today would have to be my college position coach, Thielen Smith. He preaches excellence in whatever it is you do. He told us to be the best at whatever we did. He told us to value education. And most importantly, he further instilled a sense of pride in being a black man. He did this with his words and his actions. He’s a great black man…the kind you’d want to emulate.
You seem like a nice guy…what do you think of the saying “Nice guys finish last.”
Honestly, I’m learning to be a nice guy. I’ve always been very respectful of others and I can carry on a conversation with the best of them. However, I’m still trying to master nice. As for the saying, “Nice guys finish last”, I don’t really buy it. I know too many nice dudes who are finishing nowhere near last. Rather you’re nice or not, if you’re nice at what you do you’ll be okay.
Jerald, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to hang out with APOOO!
