Kaira, welcome to APOOO!

In 140 words or less, tell us a little about you.

I was born in Boston and shortly afterward my parents enlisted in the Army. I’ve lived in Texas, Louisiana, Virginia, Germany, New York and now Connecticut. Virginia is my favorite place so far and eventually I want to move back. My Husband’s Fiancée is my third novel and I’m currently working on the sequel to my first novel Take it There.

In 140 words or less, tell readers why My Husband’s Fiancée would make a great addition to our personal library.

My Husband’s Fiancée makes a great addition to someone’s personal library because it’s told from a very unique perspective. It alternates between episodes of a reality show “Choose Me or Lose” and snapshots of the executive producer of the show’s personal life. While it will stand out in your library because of its format it still encompasses all the juicy, dramatic, romantic, comedic elements that personify African American fiction.

When you write, do you develop the plot or the characters first?   Why?

I start with the plot and I always know what the main twist will be. That way I can work towards it from page one in some form or fashion.

What’s the main message you want readers to take away from My Husband’s Fiancée?

Most people believe that you can only truly love one person at a time. “My Husband’s Fiancée” says otherwise.

Describe a day in the life of Kaira Denee.

Unfortunately right now I can’t say my life is too glamorous. My aunt passed away recently and left behind four minor sons. My husband and I took guardianship of them so our household consists of six children right now! So…a day in my life is too unpredictable to describe at the moment. I feel blessed though, to be in the position to help my little cousins through the hardest time of their lives.

Autumn is HERE, when you think of this season, what’s one memory that stands out?

For me, the highlight of every Autumn is Thanksgiving. My Nana always decorates her home in shades of brown and amber and we usually go to her house to have dinner. She goes all out from the decorations to the food to the dessert.

Complete this sentence, the best way to spend a beautiful, fall day  is___________?

Sleeping in late under a nice fluffy comforter, waking to a warm mug of coffee, then taking a leisurely walk wearing sweat pants and Uggs with my husband and kids.

Many say that the best is yet to come.  Do you agree with this statement, why or why not?

Agree 100%. As an artist it is always the goal to continually improve your craft. So the best is always right around the corner. Every time I complete  a novel I feel like “wow this book is so good.” Then I complete my next one and I’m like “ugh, that book was so stupid, THIS book is so good” and so on.

If you were to choose any fictitious world in any piece of literature, which place or book would you live in and why?

I would live in where-ever-the-heck Strawberry Shortcake lives. Everyone is nice and has a role in the city. Everyone has a cute pet and nice house and it always looks sunny

Kaira, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to hang out with APOOO!
