In 140 words or less, tell us a little about you. I am a mother, wife, sister, and aunt. I am the oldest of my six sisters and six brothers. I love to read, and have been reading avidly since I was in the 3rd grade. I live in the great Midwest for now, but plan to retire to a warmer climate as soon as I decide where my next move should be. I enjoy listening to music, almost all genres and I love watching NFL and NBA games.
In 140 words or less, tell us why your book would make a great addition to our personal library. I think Til Debt Do Us Part would be a good addition to anyone’s personal library, because it deals with a serious addiction–gambling, from a spiritual and financial perspective. The two usually don’t co-mingle but for this story they did. I think I was able to cover sufficiently what led to my main character’s addiction and explain how she overcame it.
What’s the main message you want readers to take away from Til Debt Do Us Part? I’d like readers to realize that no matter how difficult life becomes sometimes to have faith in God and he can definitely help you overcome any obstacle.
Describe a day in the life of Michelle Larks. My typical day begins with me arising at 3:00 a.m. to prepare for my 9-5 job. I check my emails during a light breakfast. I arrive at work around 5:30 where I put on my Systems Programmer hat until 1:50 p.m. During the commute to and from work I read a book and also at lunchtime. After I arrive home and have dinner, I answer emails and put on my other hat as a writer. I usually stay up until about 8:30 or 8:45 writing with music planning in the background or the television droning before I call it a day.
If you had to name a smell that always makes you nostalgic, what would it be? What sorts of memories does the smell evoke? The smell of homemade rolls makes me feel nostalgic. My mother was and still is a great cook from the South. Everyone, family and friends, love her homemade rolls. Homemade rolls cooking reminds me of a time of innocence when I was a child.
Of all your favorite foods, which one would you find the most difficult to give up for the rest of your life? Why? My all time favorite food is a pot of mixed greens cooked with smoked turkey meat. I love greens, and would have cravings for them while I was pregnant. My mother would make them or cabbage for me during my pregnancy. It would be hard for me to give up greens because I love them!
Which household chore do you dislike the most? Of all my household chores, I detest washing dishes. I have a dishwasher, but by the time I’d rinse off dishes or utensils to load in the dishwasher, I could have washed them by hand.
Name at least one thing that every mom should receive for Mother’s Day. Every mother should receive a handmade Mother’s Day card from their child. Of all the gifts I’ve received from my daughter’s those cards are the ones that bring tears to my eyes. Outside of the card, I think flowers are good gifts to honor mothers while they’re still alive.
Besides family members, what female has been instrumental in shaping you into the woman you have become today? I would have to say my friend Pat. She was my mentor when I began my IT career specifically in the Systems Programming arena. She taught me the tools that I would need to be successful in my job choice and she was a wonderful mentor and the tips she taught me are still applicable today.
Michelle, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to hang out with APOOO!
