Cross Country. I’m still having nightmares. I’d love to discuss it. Maybe I can work through my fear.
Wow Rhonda it was that poignant?
Yasmin,
I’m in human services. For two years I supervised a team of 20 people who worked with non-citizens, mostly refugees and asylees from all over the world. We hired staff from the various countries because they were bilingual in the languages and understood the cultural aspects and barriers. Having said that I learned a great deal about people who survived life in in war torn countries like Somalia, The Congo, Bosnia, Afghanistan, Vietnam and many, many others. That job assignment was as blessing and it truly made me a better person. I have heard some of the worse kind of stories from staff and clients, but that dang book James Patterson wrote took me to another place and scared the stew out of me.
I wanted to put it down, but I refused to be the American that couldn’t take it, that wouldn’t take the journey through the painful aspects of the story. But I had a few really bad nightmares last summer after I read it. Last week I was talking to a friend and she mentioned Lagos, Nigeria to me and I had a horrible nightmare that night. I had to really pray to be able to close my eyes and go back to sleep. I’m still praying the images from that book out of my head and spirit.
I know that sounds crazy. I mean, it is commercial fiction, but it really had me messed up in the head. It was a very different book for him, different for Alex Cross. Extremely well written as are all his books, but the subject matter was tough.
So now, I’ve told you what I really think about Cross Country.

Wow, Rhonda…okay I just added this one to my to-read list…I’ve got to read it to find out why it was so disturbing to you.
Hi girlfriends,

OK, Rhonda, I will have to pick up this one, as well! Sounds life changing!! I’ve also read A Deep Dark Secret, A Night with a Wealthy Rancher, and Lady Jasmine! @Sheila, I agree! Bring on the Blessings was excellent! I loved those kids! I heard that there is going to be a sequel, Bring on the Blessings II, and I can’t wait! I’ll keep you posted!
Bring on the Blessings was wonderful. It’s my favorite book by Beverly Jenkins thus far (and I’ve read them all). She was recently in my area I have a personally signed copy. I recommended any and everybody to read it.
I plan to read “Black Water Rising” by Attica Locke, The Book of Night Women by Marlon, Catting for Stone by Abraham Verghese Under The Unbroken Sky. I hope to read more than the ones I’ve listed. I want to read something by Zadie Smith too.
