Welcome to Weekly Update #5 for the Second Quarter 2009 African American Reading Challenge! How’s the reading coming? Are you on track?
Share with us the book you just read as well as the book you plan to read next.
While recuperating, I haven’t been able to do much but sleep and read so I’ve actually been able to read a few books from my to read pile/list. My latest reads include Love and Other Natural Disasters ( it took me forever to read this one…don’t know if it was the storyline or the drugs); The After Wife by Lexi Davis (her sophomore novel is a cute, light-hearted, delightful paranormal read….great entertainment purposes only read); and, I just started A New Kind of Bliss (so far no opinion).
NOTE: I’m still recuperating from surgery…but I’m reading comments…so definitely drop them.

I haven’t read anything off my reading list last week. I hope to read something light and fluffy off my list this week, because I deserve it. My school life is making it difficult to get my reading done. I don’t want to think about anything at all, so I need some mindless reading.

I am almost done with Keep The Faith by Faith Evans, my 10th book of the challenge, I give it a solid four…though I am always flabbergasted by the things women allow, particularly, so called, smart, financially independent women…but it is what it is…
BLESSINGS!

Ms. Mary how was One Taste by Allison?
Well – I was able to to read a couple of books this week but once again none were on my challenge list.
I read:
Mudbound by Hillary Jordon and Serena by Ron Rash
i thought it was a good book. it was very crazy. not one of her best books
Finished up That Devil’s No Friend of Mine. Enjoyed a quickie, Rochelle Alers’ The Sweetest Temptation. Then began reading According To Their Deeds by Paul Robertson, which is the closest thing to Christian literary fiction I’ve ever encountered. It feels like reading a book written decades ago, in part because the pace is slower than I’ve grown accustomed to, but it’s an interesting murder mystery so I’ll keep reading.
Hey Yas! You remain in my thoughts, and I’m praying for a speedy recovery for you!
This week, I attended my great aunt’s 90th birthday celebration in Wichita, Kansas, and we had family come in from all over these United States, so it was just like a family reunion! It was so great to see family and not for a sad event, like a funeral, so we had a lot of fun!
Now, with that said, I did not read anything from my Challenge List! LOL! I did, however, read while I was on the plane, and I finished Careful of The Company You Keep by Angie Daniels (the last book in a trilogy, which was very good with great characters, and a lot of drama!!) and Temperatures Rising by Brenda Jackson, which was excellent!
My next reads are: The List by Sherri Lewis, Bring On the Blessing by Beverly Jenkins, and Some Like It Hot by Brenda Jackson!
I just completed Stained Cotton by Quentin Carter. 8 books down and 5 more to go.
