Happy Summer Everyone!
Well the Second Quarter Reading Challenge is OVER. So, how did you do? Anyone read all the books on your list? Anyone read thirteen books but not necessarily the ones from your list? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
Now onto the Third Quarter Reading Challenge. Since so many of you are participating in the 30 Books in 90 Days Challenge presented by Written Magazine, I thought it would be a good idea to forgo the APOOO Third Quarter Challenge in lieu of that (that and the fact that I’ve lost my reading mojo but I want to give others the option to continue…hope I find it by the time Fall rolls around.) They’re given away a nice prize if you’re in the Atlanta area…CLICK HERE for details.
Your turn…talk to me…let APOOO know how you did during the Second Quarter Reading Challenge and if you plan to participate in Written’s 30 Books in 90 Days Challenge…feel free to share your reading list as well.
Also…STAY TUNED…I will be giving away a few 2009 releases to participants. Book list coming soon.

I read all of my second quarter books except The Shack, I gave it to my aunt who thought it was hers and has been passing it around…I am thinking about the 30/90 deal…I might…

I didn’t do well at all with the challenge this quarter… had too many distractions of the homefront. I am putting together my list which will include 6 books I never got to read a few additions… Who is praying to get her reading Mojo back
I didn’t read all the books from my list, but I did read 13. I made it by the skin of my teetn. One book I abandoned or I would have read 14. I thought for certain that since my children weren’t here I would have been reading like there was no tomorrow. But instead my husband and I have been going out and enjoying time together, something we rarely have time to do.
Yas and ‘Cilla I hope both of you get your mojo back. I have been trying to hold on to mine as best I could. Some weeks I read 2-3 books other weeks only a few pages.
I don’t think I will be doing Written’s challenge. It seems like fun, butwhen I count the books that I read from June 15 until now, I’ve only read 4. I don’t think I would make it by the end of the 90 days.

A nose diva this quarter!!!
@ Angelia LOL about your aunt…so I take it she enjoyed The Shack since she’s passing it around.
@ Priscilla…sometimes life just gets in the way…but our reading mojos will return.
@ Jennifer glad to hear that you and hubby are able to connect minus kids.
I didnt do good on the 2nd quarter challenge.I read a total of 20 books.9 of those were challenge books.I had 4 challenge books left but my last 4 choices were a struggle to read and I ended up picking up something else. It’s hard to focus and read when you have things going on but hopefully being that it’s summertime,I’ll find some good reads and get back into the habit of reading.I hope to be able to complete the next challenge.
I read more than 13 but I don’t think I read any from my true challenge books. I have been hard pressed to read the “regular” books. I’m going through a slow spell but it should pick up.

I enjoyed the challenge. I did read twelve books and listen to one audio book. Does that count as thirteen? Anyway, being here and meeting all of you was lots of fun.
I’m about to start “Murder, Mayhem & a Fine Man by Claudia mair Burney.

Completed the challenge and read all books on my original list. Not gonna do the 30/90.
My second quarter challenge was to read 13 black romance books. I did read 13 black romance book this quarter, thought I did do a couple of substitute, as I started a book series and did not like it so I picked another one.
Oh -no challenge this quarter and I had already picked my theme – books of short stories – I was going to master short stories which is not my fav genre – but I am sure that when we have another APOOO challenge – I will still have a long list of ss books.
I hope Yas and Cilla get their reading mojo back and Jennifer I am glad you and your husband are having fun while the kids are gone.
As for the the 30/90 days challenge… will have to see what the rules are.
I finished all 13 books on my list. I had a few substitutions on my list.

Hey ladies…it looks like all of us are reading but not necessarily the books we had on our list. Since so many are NOT participating in the 30/90 challenge…I’m thinking about doing a Third Quarter Challenge where we read 13 books period…no list…but just share what book we read every read…or 13 books that we read during the summer months…what say you…any interest?
I like that idea Yas
that idea works for me Yas
Well, I finished the second quarter challenge with more books read than the first quarter. Unfortunately, I cannot find my reading list to name the books I read! However, I finished reading The Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell. Good read! He talks about factors that can contribute to success: like the year you were born, your cultural legacy, opportunities that come your way, and others. The book is very well researched and documented. He writes in an anecdotal style, which makes the research easier to read and understand. I highly recommend this book. He also wrote The Tipping Point, which I bought when I heard him speak at Computer Conference years ago. I will have to pull and pry that copy from my niece, who has my book and swears she is going to read it. I can finish reading it before she starts to read it!
Gladwell was the National Education Computer Conference (NECC) in Washington, DC opening keynote speaker. He is an interesting and thought provoking speaker. He talked a little about his book, The Outliers, and its implications for education.
Now, I want to make my own Third Quarter Challenge, because I know I will not read 30 books in 90 days! My list is forthcoming.
Okay, I found my list! Thank goodness for archives!!!!

I read all but one of the books on my list. I’m still trying to complete The Last Ten Percent by Michelle Hammond McKinney. For some reason, I’m having the hardest getting into this book. I’m going to do the 30/90 challenge. It’s overlapping with the challenges here. I’m going to try my hardest to complete it and the third quarter here as well. I have a ton of books I need to read so I can make more room on my bookcase. lol I still have to post my review about Sins of a Father. June was a very difficult, busy and emotional month for me. I had a graduation, Sweet 16, monthly bookclub meeting, family reunion and lost a childhood friend. I came into July mentally exhausted so taking on these challenges is a way to bring me back down.
As far as my 2nd Quarter Reading Challenge–I read all except 3 books on the list. I did however read more than 13 books total.
I did sign up for the 30 books in 90 days challenge, I believe it was on June 30th. This is my list:
1. LOVER MAN-Geneva Holliday (READ)
2. WITH FRIENDS LIKE THAT-Ty Goode
3. TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT-Ty Goode
4. MPIRE-DEATH COMETH-T.L. James (READ)
5. BROOKWATERS CURSE-vol. 1-Steven Van Patten

30. A LOVELY MURDER DOWN SOUTH-Paul Johnson
@ Yas–sounds good to me.
My first book for July would be THE MPIRE-by T.L. James.
So, I took the time to make this list of 30. Went to Borders and starting reading a $4.00 book. Had my son check my shelves to see if i had it, he said no, I bought it. Got home and checked behind him and found that I had the book. I have finished the book but I am taking the $4.00 book back since I had it on my shelf. I really have a problem and need to find a way to get my shelfari books on my blackberry, the sight willnot load. I almost got the audio of a book I owned 2 weeks ago. I need to be able to carry my book shelf with me so I do not double buy.
Sounds good, just in case i do not make 30, I can at least my 13. Plus is I keep reading books not on the 30 list I will not reach the goal anyway.
Oh the book was Grindin by Danielle Santiago

I finished 10 of the 13 books I planned to read. That’s pretty good because my list is definitely fluid, given books for review that show up unexpected. One of my books I decided not to read yet. Started it and it just didn’t hit me, so I moved on. Another book I gave away. So I only have one book that I could have read and didn’t, Patti Lacy’s What The Bayou Saw. I’ll be reading that this month.
My total books read for the quarter was 36, a little more than I usually read. Life upheavals cause me to read more, seeking solace away from reality.

Trying to see if my web page is working. This is a test.
Hi Dera and all,
I’m visiting this whole blog. I’ve missed a lot of good stuff. See ya’ later.
I’ve been away on vacation, so I’m just now responding! I did not finish my challenge list, but I did read 11 of the 13, and then I read 7 additional books, bringing my total to 18 books! I like the idea of just reading 13 books, and then submitting our list at the end! I’ve also signed on for the 30 books in 90 days, but my loyalty is to the APOOO group, so I want to do whatever the group decides.
I have three weeks of vacation left, so I’ve been reading a bit. So far, I’ve read The Devil is A Lie by Reshonda Tate Billingsley, Holy Seduction by Jessica Robinson, and Bittersweet Love by Rochelle Alers. I’m starting And Mistress Makes Three by Francis Ray tonight! I’ll check in later on this week!
Third Quarter Challenge!
Refusing to allow a challenge to just get the best of me, I decided to continue the reading challenge. Although I did not finish reading all the books, I did fairly well.
I finished the following books:
Donovan’s Double Trouble by Monalisa DeGross (children’s)
Jass by David Fulmer
Stand the Storm by Breena Clarke
Bonus Book read: Paul Robeson by Eloise Greenfield (children’s)
To Be Read for the Fourth Quarter Challenge:
The Book Whisperer by Donalyn Miller
God Only Knows by Xavier Knight
Bring on the Blessings by Beverly Jenkins
Something Like Beautiful One Single Mother’s Daughter by Ashe Bandele
The Devil’s No Friend of Mine by JD Mason
Bird by Zetta Elliott (children’s)
The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell
Sweetsmoke by David Fuller
No Safe Place by Kim Reid
Acacia by David Anthony Durham
Yas, are we doing the Fourth Quarter Challenge?
