Hey good peeps and Happy Tuesday!

I heard yesterday that Roland Martin was coming to the Tom Joyner Morning Show!  I like Martin so I was excited to hear this.  What about you?  Here’s a snippet from the press release that I received:

(Dallas, TX – September 22nd, 2008) – Roland Martin, a popular CNN analyst and TV One Cable Network commentator, has joined the Tom Joyner Morning Show as senior news analyst to the nation’s No. 1 nationally syndicated urban radio show, company officials announced today.  Martin’s daily contribution can be heard every morning at 6:20 am CST. He will offer daily insight into major news events and other issues affecting Black America.

Okay, so I’m behind…lol.  Seems that Martin’s first day with Tom was yesterday.  Did anyone listen…yesterday?  What about today?  If you’ve heard him, do you think that he can fill Tavis’ shoes?  Better yet, did anyone miss Tavis?  EDITOR’S NOTE:  I actually liked Tavis and enjoyed listening to many of his commentaries…however…this year he worked on my last nerve…and it wasn’t my funny bone…oh wait that’s not a nerve…hehe.  Tavis was good at giving it but when folks revolted…he had the AUDACITY to get upset!  WTF…anyway, unfortunately, I haven’t missed Tavis.  I’m looking forward to hearing Martin as it should be a refreshing experience.  Now, if I could just remember to tune in at 7:20 EST every day to hear him!

Talk to Me…Thumbs Up or Down for Roland S. Martin on the Tom Joyner Show?

  1. I like Roland also, catch his commentary on TV One, I start work at six, so I rarely catch TJMS, I like Tavis, he just got caught up and out a bit…I remember when he was on the BET news, he would let people rattle him, I remember he was incensed because Russell Simmons called him a house negro, when they were talking about rap music…I thought Tavis was going to jump across the table…Roland will be a good fit for TJMS…

  2. This guy is everywhere; CNN, TV One. I ain’t mad at the brother, get your journalist on. Tavis isnt the only one that can talk intelligently about issues of importance to the black community.

  3. Angelia, LOL about Tavis and Russell Simmons.

Dera, yes Roland is coming into his own, I really like him…!

  4. I think this will be a good addition as I like his reasoning and his ability to discuss all issues with all people.
I do not listen to TJS. I see him mainly on CNN.
I have been tuning into his CNN special on this upcoming election and what are the tough issues not being spoken out loud.

  5. Love to hear Roland Martin espouse his views and analyze those of others.

Listen to the TJMS every morning in the car but the portion of the show that I catch has shifted so I no longer hear the 7 o’clock hour. I’ll have to think about turning it on in the house, although I much prefer quiet or gospel while I do the AM routine.

I was wondering why Jacqui Reed was now doing her bit during the 9AM hour. She used to have the 7:20 EST spot.

  6. This is guy is blowing up and rightfully so. He presents well and is not afraid to ask the hard questions, yet he does so eloquently and still keeps it real. I’ve only seen him on CNN, but wish him continued success!

  7. I haven’t listened to the TJMS in years (I like to work and read in silence), but I like the idea of Roland Martin on the show. I watch him on CNN and read his column and really enjoy his commentaries and style. He’d be a great asset to the show.

  8. What they said..I havent heard him yet but I like his views

  9. Roland Martin’s good people so congratulations to him. Tavis I congratulate him on his moving on…I enjoyed him and had the opportunity three times to interview him whenever he came to Gary to speak, the last time was when he was promoting The Convenant and that was the longest conversation I ever had with the man. He knew it was time to move on and I supported that decision. Both men are intelligent brothers in the media.

  10. I like watching Roland Martin and reading his commentary. He will be a good addition to the TJMS.

  11. I love Roland S. Martin I’ve read him and watched him on CNN and recently saw his interview with Michelle Obama on TVOne…he’s very good!

They also carry his column in Essence magazine

I actually think I will like him better then Travis on TJMS…Travis started to wear on my nerves and I found I was changing the station during his commentary.

  12. Two Thumbs Up!

  13. I think Roland makes a good addition to the team although I don’t think he was brought in as a “replacement’ for Tavis – I thought that was why Jeff Johnson & Stephanie Robinson were onboard (as co-commentators). Either way, Roland is making it work. Oh – I also find myself enjoying DL Hughley’s segments — I’ve not been a huge DL fan in the past but I like his political satire.
