Selling My Soul Blog Tour
Sherri Lewis’ writing was put on hold while she attended Howard University as an undergraduate, then medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. After working almost fifteen years in the medical field, Sherri left her position as a staff physician at a Georgia Department of Corrections’ Women’s prison to pursue writing and ministry full time.
Sherri is co-founder of the Faith-Based Black Fiction Writers of Atlanta with Essence Best-Selling author Tia McCollors. Selling My Soul is the anticipated sequel to Sherri’s debut novel, My Soul Cries Out. She lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Visit Sherri online at www.sherrilewis.com.
Would you say you are an extrovert or introvert?
I would consider myself an extroverted introvert. I enjoy being around people and talking and having great conversations, but I also value my alone/introspective time a great deal. I can be shy in certain social situations, but I can also be quite a social butterfly, depending on the circumstance.
Do you like to cook? If so, what are your favorite dishes to cook?
I LOVE to cook but I rarely have time to do so. I love to cook healthy stuff and be creative by using all sorts of weird stuff to flavor foods. I love to cook salmon with all sorts of glazes and sweet potatoes with honey orange sauce and then some vegetable with exotic fruit mixed in. I used to love to bake but it’s fattening so I had to let it go.
Are you a sports fan? If so, tell us about your favorite sports and/or sports team.
I LOVE NFL football. My sister says I turn into a complete DUDE during football season. I tend to follow a lot of teams and some specific players since I’m a Navy brat and don’t have a real home team to root for. If I happen to be seeing a guy, I tend to cheer for his team, so right now I’m a Steelers fan. J
Are there any other hobbies you wish to share?
I love to sing and write music. I’ve written quite a few praise and worship songs and need to hook up with a producer friend of mine to get them developed and recorded.
What movie(s) have you watched recently that you would recommend?
I have two favorite recent movies. I loved Avatar. I loved the beauty of the cinematography and also the powerful story behind it. I could watch it over and over and can’t wait to own my own copy, complete with 3D glasses. I also love an older classic called August Rush. It’s about the power of music and love. I’ve watched it a million times and always love to watch it with someone new so I can enjoy watching them experience it for the first time.
Do you like books being turned into a movie? If so, what is your favorite book-to-movie?
Sometimes I like books being turned into movies – if it’s done well. So much of the content gets lost because a script is so much shorter than a book. You can’t “hear” the internal thoughts of your characters and so don’t get to know them as well. There is the advantage of being able to see what you saw in your head on the big screen. If they get it right, of course. I’m not sure I have a favorite book turned to movie. I enjoyed The Secret Life of Bees.
If Selling My Soul was turned into a movie who would you cast to play your characters?
That’s a great question. My best friend is a film/television producer and she has my previous titles, My Soul Cries Out and The List completely casted and has screenplay ideas already written. She hasn’t read Selling My Soul since it was released, so I don’t have a cast for it yet.
Which social networks do you enjoy the most?
I only use Facebook. Social networks are addictive and time consuming. I know they’re a great tool for marketing and networking but I can get lost on there for hours and find that I don’t get important work done. I’ve found a lot of old friends on facebook and have connected with family members that I haven’t talked to and seen for years. It’s also a lot of fun to watch football with my facebook friends – talking a whole bunch of trash.
What’s next for you?
I’m about to go on a huge adventure. Selling My Soul is about a missionary returning from Africa. When I wrote the book, I had never been to Africa but had always dreamed of going. Since completing it, I’ve been to Cameroon twice and have made connections in Nigeria as well. So this summer, I’ll be doing a brief ministry tour, preaching in Nigeria, and then this fall, I’ll be starting a school of ministry in Buea, Cameroon in West Africa.
About the Book
When Trina Michaels steps off the plane after her two-year missions trip in Africa, she realizes that other than longing to see her mother and her best friend, her heart aches to fly back to the place that now feels more like home than anywhere she’s… ever lived. And to the man who’s stolen her heart.
Her dream of a quick return to Mozambique fades within hours when Trina discovers that her mother has been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. Trina is forced to go back to her job as a publicist to cover her mother’s health costs.
She’s assigned a damage control client, Bishop Walker, a megachurch pastor accused of covering up a church sex scandal within his church involving the molestation of young boys. Representing him could cost Trina her most valued friendship, the love of her life, and her soul.
