I heard about this book, The Soloist, from my book club member and soror, Linda. Now that I’ve seen the trailer I can understand why this is one of her favorite books and why she wants to see the movie. I too want to read the book…and see the movie. Jamie Foxx know he has skills…I can’t believe he’s gone from playing Wanda on Living Color to become a serious character actor. Go Jamie!

This is the true story of journalist Steve Lopez’s discovery of Nathaniel Ayers, a former classical bass student at Julliard, playing his heart out on a two-string violin on Los Angeles’ Skid Row. Deeply affected by the beauty of Ayers’s music, Lopez took it upon himself to change the prodigy’s life—only to find that their relationship has had a profound change on his own life.

Read the book first Yas before seeing the movie. They had the real reporter and homeless musician on 60 minutes – the same one that had the interview with President Obama a couple weeks ago – and I was smiling and crying all over again. I felt that reporter because as a columnist like he is…when you are on deadline and have nothing and something falls your way and takes you on a journey that you could never imagine and share it with others…it is something.
WOW… I have been hearing about this book for a while (LINDA) and I missed the episode on 60 minutes. I just got the book so I gotta read and NOW .. I have to see the movie… Thanks Yas
Iam also looking forward to the movie buti need to read the book.
I agree about Jamie Foxx- when I saw Ray I was speechless at his brilliant acting skills. I will read the book, which is what I typically do when a great book-to-movie intrigues me. But in this case I may not be able to get myself to read the book first. I love seeing Jamie act.
